Ren'Py - My New Paranormal Life [v0.5.5] [Impassi Productions]

    Very lovely project, although some blue balling exists at this version.
    Stage is set up for very hot stuff, I dig it and the "From dusk to dawn* vibes/references (who am I kidding, it's a copy cut) are very spot on and a very nice idea from the dev.
    Art is very refreshing, really enjoyed it, scenarios are semi-humurous but well made and super lewd. LIs are tip notch!
    Very simple game, some grinding exists, extra points because you can skip it.
    This version has a lot of stuff yet unexplored, but as I said, the foundation is there to take the game wherever the Dev wishes.

    Version 0.5.5 reviewed.

    This is one of those projects I hope gets carried through to completion. What I recognized right off the bat were the legitimately high production values.

    Pros:

    -The interface is about as slick as they come with Ren'Py
    -The quest log and phone app are functional and unobtrusive
    -The map itself is zoomable and is built right into the phone
    -The artwork is solid and immersive, but does lack some in density/variety
    -The minigames are well-executed and can be disabled
    -Each of the ladies is interesting and offers a variety of personality tropes to choose from

    Cons:

    -Freeroam/Sandbox games tend to lead to a lot of scene repetition
    -For a 0.5, the amount of content seemed a tad light
    -Magic Dick is strong with this one...All of the girls turn their brains off when they see cock

    That aside, I found the story formulaic but interesting enough and competently paced. There's enough side story/side quest action to make the world feel a tad less linear without leaving the player confused on what to do next.

    TL;DR: The core kink here seems to be the incestuous relationships the player can cultivate with his "landlady," "not-sister," and "not-aunt" against the backdrop of a pedestrian yet interesting monster girl mystery. You will see the same locations (a lot) and the same girls in similar poses (a lot) but the execution is professional enough that I personally didn't find it offputting.

    In a world where AI art seems to be pushing human talent off the stage, this was a refreshing reminder that some artists are still working, and even taking pride in their craft.

    Pretty fun experience overall. The story has plausible background and beginning despite being in the paranormal genre. You can disable mini-games which is superb taking out the shitty grind that many sandboxes have it.

    Translation:
    "0.5 has a lot of promise and I think so far it's got enough to get it going for the next couple of updates as it progresses the story. It's not perfect but it does a lot right over doing a lot wrong.

    - Gameplay
    It's a Ren'Py visual novel type of game. It follows the point and click style of gameplay, which isn't overshot with too much for the player to click. Mini games are decent, cafe is diner dash minus moving around and the massage mini game is essentially a build up to sex later down the line. The map is kinda wonky, the main way to traverse is using the phone map icon but in certain areas you can click on things to move to another area. Could use some fine tweaking but nothing serious.

    - Storyline
    You are a guy who moved away from this town or moved to the town your "Landlady" and "Friend" live in after your dad died. Some weird shit happens and now you have mermaids, demons, witches, and milfs coming after your dick. It reminds me a little of Summertime Saga, in that the premise is you are going around town fucking women and trying to unravel the mystery blah blah blah. Otherwise the story isn't terrible, for sure scratches the mystery solving side of my brain. It's got some good pacing, doesn't try to cram so much into an update that it gets confusing.

    - Artwork
    It looks really good and then it kinda falls flat in some areas. For now it's fine but I do think later down the line either some updated scenes and or artwork would do wonders for the game.

    - Overall
    Def worth a try. Again would like to see in the future some fine tuning on mechanics like the map and just some touch ups/ updates to scenes and artwork further down the line."

    0.3 The artwork is amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing, very looking forward to further contents on Alice's storyline. Loved the style of characters. The setting is kinda interesting too, but yea the most I like is still Alice's line, liked the details.

    0.5 Artwork's still very nice, like that. Like the new content in Alice's storyline. But I'd rly like to have a gallery tho.

    Very little artwork here.
    Too much telling and too little showing. If the artist can't produce more than a dozen backgrounds with sprites on top, then maybe this style isn't working for a VISUAL novel.
    I hate reading what's supposedly happening over a black background. That's just lazy and kills any kind of immersion. For me at least.

    Not a lot there yet, but its mostly very well done and is a fresh story. Tad bit rushed in some parts, but this could end up a 5*. Not enough dialogue with some of the characters and how fast it jumps the MC relationship forward(i.e. the redhead)

    Look forward to seeing where this one goes.

    v0.3
    Art is fantastic. Story is interesting and engaging. There is a nice setup for a world with great possibilities, as shown by the beautifully drawn world map including a number of interesting spots that currently aren't in the game. There is an actual game loop already implemented, even if it isn't the most engaging it at least isn't a click on "work (6h)" like some others thus offering hope that this won't become a very grindy game.

    For now there isn't much so I'd recommend holding off and not playing it an waiting for a release that will have a lot more content so you get the great feeling of discovery only once and enjoy the game.

    v0.4 added content it is equal or even slightly better in quality to v0.3

    I really like the game visually. The characters look good and I love monster girls. Also, I dislike sandboxes but this one is alright so far, its mostly just choosing who to interact w/ first. Although the money/xp stuff makes me worried for the future (hint: pointless grinding is never a good idea to implement).

    However, the writing and dialogue is just so bland. I don't know if its translated or what, but the dialogue is very sparse and some responses just don't make a ton of sense logically. And some scenes are just over waaay too fast. The date with the mermaid is literally like 7-8 sentences long. Some scenes are even shorter. We need to be able to actually TALK to these girls if you want us to care about them.

    If the world and the MC's motivations were fleshed out more, and the dialogue and scenes were not so quick and boring this game would be a 5. As of now its probably more of a 3, but I like the visuals/girls a bunch so I upped my rating to a 4.

    So far so great (v0.2)!

    It has very good atmosphere. You feel like you go on an adventure imop, really cool. You have multiple dialogue options some time when talking to the girls than can lead to funny interactions, maybe there will be consequences in the future depending on what you chose in these dialogues (from the questlog it seems to be that way). The art style is very pleasing to the eyes (maybe some AI used?), imop. all in all it looks very good. The reference to "from dusk till dawn" is very much appreciated. Also of course the most important thing, the females character designs are very hot (I mean look at that demon lady)...

    If this game can keep up with what it promises rn (many mysteries yet to solve), it will definetly be one of my favourites.

    [v0.2]
    • fun to play, feels like an adventure;
    • nice art;
    • great girls;
    • good pacing, dialogs are to the point / concise;
    • mini-game isn't bad & can be disabled (trade off);
    • nice (non standard) bgm & pretty nice sound design / sfx;
    • UI is good (a fair deal above Ren'Py game avg.) & pleasure to work with;
    • good polish overall;
    • squirting! :BootyTime:
    At least 4 stars, but feel confident to give 5 already.

    Very short initial release, but really well put together.
    I honestly simply enjoyed the story, very immersive.

    Art style: 5/5
    Story so far: 5/5
    Interface: 5/5 (I would allow to save without naming the save file)
    Action: none at the moment

    Notes: I would switch relationships to incest (A definite mom and sister thing is going) or at least construct writing where it could be added with an easy "word swap".
    Also, so many horror games are suffering from a lack of anal, I would advise including that in.

    Demo is very short but damn it caught my attention, art is very good, sound is peak, the slightly spooky premise with the little clues in the newspaper have huge potential. looking forward to more

    Hope it stays a little spooky
