Thanks for this, I'm just getting started.
Getting started in that, I have installed Daz Studio and opened it a couple of times to have a look around.
I have a story for a game ready to go, but no artwork or graphics in any way, just ideas.
Daz can be a bit overwhelming if you never worked with programs like it, but it's actually quite easy if you get started ;)

I agree with Recreation, Daz can be a PITA to get used to if it's your first render program. (I got lucky and had a few friends who used it before me so I was able to get some free tutorials on how to get stuff set up correctly, how to configure lights and what not.).

I do like your optimization for Iray, with a crappy 1050 Video card rendering can take a long time.

@recreation I'd be interested to see how you do the morphs on your characters.

What I do is load the base model I want to use. (I prefer Eva, Vic, karen, and Gia). But there are a lot of specific females that I like as well, so I will load (Eva for instance), then decrease the Eva morph to around 50%, then increase lets say Sandie body morph to around 20 - 25%. Then maybe add 5% of one of the other models. Sometimes it will look alright, but other times the models come out deformed pretty badly.

Most of my friends that taught me Daz have moved on to new places, so I can't ask them for help anymore. But I wasn't sure if the best way to morph the models was like how I was doing it, or if I needed to get the morph asset packs (You know the breast, butt, or specific racial packs (Asian, African, Latin, and what not.).).

In general I do it the same way. I load the base model and then play with some morph sliders, but I do have a lot morphs. I tend to move the slider to 100% at first, to see what exactly changes and if there is something I like to use and then move it down again to a subtle value.

There is no general receipe to get a good looking character, it's just a lot of trial and error and it takes a lot of time to create them. What I can recommend is to install many morphs, especially for the face and to load only the character (and no other asset) so you can do some quick coseup test renders from time to time to see how the character really looks in iray. It's also a good idea to choose the materials (skin, hair, eye color, etc) early, because they can change the look of a character immensely after you created him/her.

@recreation Thanks for the advice man, and I need to get back to ordering more things for Daz. I've been on hiatus due to some computer issues (REALLY crappy video card that can barely run most portrait type renders at 1080p) Need to get some kidn of a card with minimum 6gb internal ram.

I have a lot of character morphs, but not so many body part / facial morphs. What I did was focus more on the bulkpackages first, then get specific scenes, and clothing sets. Things that I could work with, then I started getting poses, and now I think I need to focus a lil more on the morphs and skin shaders / assets. I have a few that I really like, but I still need to get the wet skin, tanned skin, and anything with freckles.

Very nice stuff you got, I'll take a better look at in the AM when I get off work. (Love working night shift.) And yeah I plan on getting more stuff off the daz section, I honestly never thought about checking the forums Daz stuff. So thanks for the advice, you sir, and a gentleman and a pervy scholar. So I :tipsthehat: at ya.

Thanks Recreation for the links. Super helpful. The texture drawing is awesome and well explained.
Also loving the visual novel so far. The mute aspect is an incredible add. Pushing a whole new level into visual storytelling.
Greatly appreciate the foray into a new topic.

The faces of your models are very realistic. Hoping I can reach that level myself.

Cheers.

Although I guess the good news is that girls change their looks, sometimes a lot. I have an 18 yo. friend and I never know from week to week what hair color and style she will be wearing. But you are right on the basics of the character, especially the skin maps. It would really throw things off, for example, if Ellie had a mole on her right cheek that moved to the left cheek in a subsequent episode. That's why it's worth the investment up front to really fine tune the basic character You are spot on about morphs. They are the number one best way to play with a character and change something that initially is not all that original (Genesis 3, 8, or stock models like Teen Josie [all versions]) into something quite unique and not seen anywhere else. Of course, it kind of breaks the ability for fans to do fan art because replicating what you did would be well nigh impossible, or require someone with inside knowledge.

These are great! Really appreciate the effort that went into these. I was wondering - do you have any recommendations about where to find tutorials on humanoid animation for G3 G8 models?

Not really, sadly. All the animation tutorials for Daz I know of, are made for the old pre 4.12 versions. In 4.12 it's quite different and closer to actual animation tools from other software like blender (it's not as good, but it's closer than before).
I'd recommend to watch some general animation tutorials instead^^

Do you have tutorials on how to make realistic lighting so that genesis 3 and genesis 8 look realistic and good?
