This is the second title of the "A Clockwork Ley-Line" trilogy, and the general opinion is that it's a noticeable improvement over the first. The way i see it this an exaggeration, and the difference between both is negligible. What's really boosting the rating of this VN, is a very strong ending segment, that just convinces you to check the final installment. In other words, they stay the course for most of the duration, and then bring the "A-Game", to leave a lasting impression. It worked.
Positive:
- All the things i already mentioned in the review of the prequel; Good characters; interesting mystery and supernatural; Entertaining setting and more than enough worldbuilding; Steady pacing; Good voice acting, and more.
- The new cast members, and resulting group dynamics are welcome additions; The ending is all the proof you need, to realize they can deliver even higher quality.
Negative:
- Some aspects of the prequel were disregarded here (lack of cohesion). The ending is great, but the philosophy behind it feels cheap. They are literally saving the best for last, so that you buy the next one. This is one of the problems with episodic VN's, and a personal distaste.
Score: A Clockwork Ley-Line: Daybreak of Remnants Shadows is a an 7/10, and a good VN. It maintains the quality of its predecessor, and shows you an ending that fits a higher tier VN. It's very unlikely that you will stop after reading this one, so mission accomplished.
(H-scenes are OK, they have some fan service going for them, but are far from great incentive to read this.)
