I know that it's personal, I know that the right is in the middle, but I like read your opinion about these kind of topics. My question is: when we talk about erotic games, do you prefer games that behave like "real games" (where you have to grind, farm, become stronger to defeat stronger enemies, collect things etc...) or like little stories (like short movies, where you don't have to do something, just read dialogues, see scenes or decide some dialogue options). Thanks for the attention

Something between two of them. I think you are refering mostly RPGM games with saying "farm" or "become stronger". I do like some of them. However i personally like games with mini games inside of it like summertime saga or milfy city. I mean i do like some good visual novels but i want to feel that i am actually playing a game instead of mass reading. Games should be completely unlinear if it is visual novel. Good girl gone bad and babysitter are good example.

If the story is good enough, people won't mind if it is visual novel or not.

I prefer RPG style games. I've loved RPG's since I was a sproglette and after playing things like Roundscape Adorevia and Last Sovereign I just have a hard time with VN's now.

Some are okay if they have characters I like but personal tastes kill most VN's before i've even started looking for one. I'm a lesbian so male MC's are out to start with. If I see a preview pic of a character I find attractive i'll try it which is how I found Depraved Awakening with Christina pictures and Love and Submission with Becky but what I thought was going to be a major angle with her being one of the most important women in his life growing up she barely had any time so I scrapped that one.

The other problem is there are some fetishes I really don't like, incest is one, and there are a ton of those. Doesn't matter if it's landlady, step or childhood friend we all know the meaning behind it and I want something original. I'm not into family fuckery.

I mainly stick to games with some depth to the gameplay.

If the gameplay elements are there just to make it a "real game" then I would prefer not having them at all.

It depends on your game if the gameplay elements are relevant to the story / theme of your game then they are welcomed IMO.

If your game is just a bunch of dialogue scenes and events with the ocasional choice that is ok as well as long as the story is interesting.

I mostly like stories with choices, I don't mind some traveling or action gameplay, but I hate grinding.

as for me it depends on mood. I'm a new here, but if compare with films or books smtimes i want to read or watch long stories, smtimes turn on my imagination and here short stories are useful.
so, i can conclude - both your variants are good enough:)

I like both, though I've seen far more that behave like movies/VNs than actual games, so I get really excited for ones that break that convention. Gimme gameplay!

I prefer having gameplay as a pacing tool. You talk to people, explore, grind materials, do quests, get laid, repeat.
Just having text isn't very engaging, having to make small decisions all the time is.

I would like to play the best in each type of genre, I like the variety. I don't even mind the "grind" in some games, I just consider it part of that genre (like Akabur's games). That said, the more focused VNs with good storytelling are my favorites at this point.

Your thread title suggested something other than your question (A game or a film).

I was going to invoke the old video game Dragon's Lair as an example of something that feels like both.

A game that played a bit like Dragons Lair that could actually be kinda cool. Real-time sexy fun time. Not sure what the consequences would be if you missed a keystroke combination though...

If you 'stayed' with the fantasy theme playing a female MC, I suppose that you could do something like use your sword to cut the belt of some handsome adversary, so his pants drop around his knees, and move in to give him a BJ before he can react, and then have to judge when to change things up before he gets annoyed and decides to attack you instead.

And of course, pleasing a Dragon sufficiently to keep him from eating you could be an interesting finale...

It'd be kind of a weird game, but it could be interesting.

Back to the question you actually asked, yeah I like a balance of character building, story development, and of course sexy fun time. It's a fine balance, but when done well it could work quite nicely. Unfortunately, I can't think of any 'perfect examples', as I haven't found that perfect balance of this (for me) as of yet.

I still remember spending umpteen hours grinding solar panels in that one game... (Spaced Out). Or repeating the same sex scenes over and over in other games, because there wasn't a lot of variety on that front when trying to build up stats, etc... But since I downloaded these games for free, yeah I applaud the effort at least, and have learned to not expect the moon and the stars.

A visual novel with choices that matter is my ideal format nowadays.

We are going to invent our genre.

From my point of view, it based on visual novel and contain some clever, playable grind mechanics.

I prefer actual games, ideally RPGs, but most western devs of erotic games don't seem to "get" RPGs, so I'm mostly stuck with japanese h-games for that. VNs can be good, too, but I'd prefer them to have a branching system that actually allows your character to get on radically different paths during the game, instead of just choices here and there that ultimately come down to: "do you want to initiate this sex scene: yes or no", while the overal story stays on a single track no matter what.
The worst case imo is a game that's VN style, stays on a single track with very little meaningful choices and is, for no good reason, developed with RPGmaker (if I'd be cynical I'd say that there actually is a reason: lots of pointless running from scene to scene on lifeless RPGmaker maps bloats the gameplay time, making the game seem longer than it actually is).

I definitely prefer the latter. Making some decisions here and there makes it more fun and entertaining, but if there's a lot to do in order to progress through the story, I start to lose interest.

Pretty much this.

A good game(porn or otherwise) is a game that gives the player the freedom to play how they want(within limets)
A bad game just takes us for a ride.

I honestly dont see why many games are trying to become movies.
Yes it looks very nice but i take ugly charaters and good gameplay over gorgeous charater and bad gameplay.

For example:
Free cities(with precency mod) is a text based game that i would praise to perverts like myself.
Because it give me alot of options.
Granted it isnt the best game i played(that is superpowered because it is the only game that give the ability to have woman wear more clothing aka control. Dont get me wrong seeing naked sex starved sluts is fun for the first million times but after that you want them to start wearing clothing because clothing has become more sexy then naked supermodels, also mindcraft is the closes thing we ever gotten to mind control that doesnt invole turning them into sex starve sluts, i like my playthings to do more then just have sex.)
