Ren'Py - A House in the Rift [v0.7.17] [Zanith]

TL / DR: There is something pervasively charming about A House on the Rift. Scenes are great, well written, and there are lots of wholesome moments b/t the characters. The two places it shoots itself in the foot a tiny bit is a lack of development in the meta plot and re-using the same ugly Male MC skin pre-fab that like 200 games are using.

Pros:
~Animations are great
~Text for the sex scenes was nicely done and usually gave you options b/t being gentle or rough so you could experience a bunch of different erotic vibes.
~The plot is a novel concept- and a somewhat compelling way to harem build.
~Characters are all really cute / charming in their own way and the arcs have some nice romance + lust vibes.
~Cuddling

Neutral:
~Game was a little whimsical and cheesy- but heck; I'm not always looking for an epic struggle. Pretty relaxing to play.

Cons:
~ Meta plot needs some foreshadowing / allusion or some other literary development to give the story some tension.
~ Male MC skin is really ugly and probably exists (approximately) in hundreds if not thousands of other Ren'Py games. If anyone ever makes some free non-hideous male skins for Ren'Py devs to use they deserve a free ticket to w/e afterlife they desire.
~A LOT of random clicking around. Game progression is pretty choppy from a UI perspective.
~MC was a bit too standard sneaking around spying and being a weird pervert for my tastes.

Excellent renders, excellent animations, excellent stories! Excellent game! Good job dev! Love the pillory scene with the elf. Keep it up! Quick question, are you gonna have some sharing scene in the upcoming updates like spitroasting the girls with another male character? I would love it if you do, well it's up to you. Looking forward to the stories of each girls.

I played V0.15.10r2. This is another of my all time favorite porn games. It starts out pretty slow, but hang in there (or read quickly), and it'll soon take a turn for the more interesting. There's not much in the way of game mechanics, but it's definitely got enough to keep me engaged. The art, story, characters, and premise are all on point. I can't wait to see where this goes. I hope there's more dimensional travel to come.

Decent game so far, but increasingly boring. It´s time the plot advances and interesting thing happens.

IMO the problem with this game are too many characters, not all of them interesting and attractive. The developer has bitten off more than he can chew. Too many updates have been needed to introduce all the characters and set the plot. And now that everything is set, the game seems to no advance, or better, advance at a snail's pace with updates full of boring and mundane events and scenes.

This is the initial premise: a regular guy is stranded into a house floating on the ether because of magic, and different girls (well, not exactly girls: a succubus, a female elf, a female orc and others like that) from different worlds arrive to that house to live with him, again because of magic. The explanations about that magic is just waffle. For some reason they can´t go out of the house and to other worlds, except for short periods of time. That´s all so far. There are several mundane scenes in the house (the girl X having breakfast, the girl X seeing TV, the girl X passing some time in her room), and several vanilla sex scenes, pretty similar from a character to other. The dialogues aren´t specially interesting, funny or witty, but aren´t terrible either. About the characters, some of them are interesting and have some kind of charm. Others not. For example, I can´t see like an attractive character the female orc: green, with boar tusks and the personality and charisma of a wooden plank.

The level of grind, I would say it´s "medium".

This game needs a shake. More interactions among the girls and those interactions should be less mundane than the previous ones. Parties, sexy games with the MC and the girls... things like those. More humor and less invented verbiage about magic and astral travels. More kinks and fetishes, more variety in sex scenes. More evolution of the characters and their relationships into the house. And real advances of the plot. Not more updates about a character walking across the street with the MC, discussing if the city is best at night or during daylight, and going to pawn a bracelet for buying a dress, like the last one.

Excellent game with a solid story, perfect fluent animations and really good character development . We just hope for more content and more development though the dev shared sometime on this journey that he is gonna create a new game/project, which makes me sad to say the truth, cause of the potential on this 1!

Damn good game. Especially relations and progression of some characters are really spot on. Characters are different and sexy/cute. The only problem I have is with some models but each has their own preference and this game satisfy most of them. BDSM? Kinks? Vanilla? With each update we get to enjoy more action and "plot". Personally I love all girls but one. Which one it is I will let you decide. I can safely say that I enjoyed each and every update of this game. I will support its creation when I have enough capital.

A very beautiful game. The animations are awesome, dialogues always on point. One or two easter eggs, no need to rush everything...it's really good. I always wait for the next update. My favourite game so far. That house in the rift feels really like home.

So far one of my favorites, the story is very basic, but the characters have a lot of personnality and make the entire thing very enjoyable. Not too much grind as well, and the events are nice. Can't wait for the rest, it's just the type of harem I can't wait next updates. Thank you OP, very cool.

This game is easily in the top 5 best games on this site. No question. Personally, it’s my number 2 favorite game just behind WVM, but that’s just my personal taste. In terms of sheer quality, this game is tops.

Before I gush too much about the game, I do want to go over some of the flaws. No game is perfect after all. The main flaw I had was the reused scenes. I’m not talking about obvious repeatable scenes, I mean scenes that happen during story events that are just copy and pasted. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it really stands out and feels lazy (which can’t be said about any other aspect of the game.)


Another issue I have is that it feels like the older girls start to fall by the wayside as newer characters are introduced. It’s kinda wild that Niomi was not only around for quite awhile longer than Caitlin, but is also far more sexually open, and still has far fewer scenes. Rae on the other hand has the most scenes of all the girls, but they all felt very frontloaded. I feel like I did 90% of her scenes before Caitlin or Lyriel ever joined the house, then she basically stopped having new content. I get that the dev probably feels Rae has sufficient content and wants to focus on giving the other girls good stuff too, but it feels like she’s been sort of forgotten — which is a crime because Rae is objectively best girl and if you disagree, you are a monosyllabic ape and I refuse to hear your reasons for disagreeing because they would certainly destroy my brain cells due to how moronic and objectively incorrect they are. Rae best girl.

But that’s basically it. This game is so good.

• The writing is genuinely solid, the plot and world building are interesting and believable, at least believable enough for a porn game. And the dialogue is clever, witty, and basically error-free. Different characters even have different mannerism that are clearly defined enough that you could probably show me a few lines of dialogue and I could tell who said them without any context or help.
• The models are all very hot, with a decent variety of body types despite there only being a small number of main girls. Rae is obviously the hottest but Lyriel and Caitlin are also incredible. Niomi and Yona are also very hot, but I have a type.
• There is quite a lot of content in the game between all the girls. Rae and Caitlyn in particular have quite a bit of content, but Lyriel and Niomi also have a lot as well. You won't find the quantity or quality of scenes to be lacking here. Speaking of quality...

The best part has to be the animation. The animation in this game is stellar. It’s fluid, it’s dynamic, and most of all, it’s unique! The dev doesn’t just use the same 4 sex positions and camera angles that you see in every single Honey Select game in existence. The dev uses facial expressions and POV camera angles to really have creative and interesting animated sex scenes. It’s genuinely impressive and praiseworthy.

My personal favorite part of the game is something a lot of other reviewers touched on. It’s cozy, it’s wholesome, it’s sweet. This game just feels nice to play. Sure, there’s drama and all the usual shit, but there’s something so warm and comfortable about watching a movie with Rae or studying with Caitlin. There’s something so relaxing about entering Niomi’s dream and just chilling on a bed of pillows. There’s something so endearing about laying in bed with Rae and just talking about how — despite being “trapped” in this house — it doesn’t feel like a prison...

It feels like home.


Do yourself a favor and play this fucking game. 10/10, no question. I look forward to when this game completes, but at the same time, I think it's one of the only games on this site that I half wish would just go on forever.

A House in the Rift is that harem game where you feel like you're on cloud, but for some reason you feel like that cloud is actually a serious issue looming over the horizon.

Then again, that's almost literal.

This game is comfy af. It's like a snuggie, cup of hot chocolate, and sex. A pretty dope combo if you ask me. You didn't, but I'm telling you anyways.

Then there's the matter of the lore, and the fact that there is an actually well made lore to justify everything. It's not super fleshed out, but it's such a nice skeleton, so things can easily fit into it. Which is exactly what one should do while making a game that gets content updates.

What really stands out for this game is its animations. It's truly something else at times. The H-scenes are fantastic as a result too. Got some nice frame rates, nice angles, camera pans... It's some high production. Those dreams ones? Masterpieces.

As for the girls, they're all unique, and there's probably one just for you. If not, there will probably eventually be one just for you.

But if you're like me, you're enjoying all of them. As they say, variety is the spice of life.

This is free roam game that's easy to navigate, and has an excellent in game guide that helps you out.

My only gripe is that there's not enough variety in the music. There's like... 2 or 3 songs? Definitely could use a bit more. Oh and maybe the UI and menu isn't really unique.

Other than that, I feel hecking chill while playing this game, and I want to know more, while enjoying some of the best animated h-scenes ever.

this game is very well-made, and has a great story to it too. the animations are very smooth, and the game does a good job, sucking you into the plot. satisfied. I remember the first time playing this, a decent amount of content, and enough immersion to keep you playing for more than a hour at a time. I hope to see this visual novel go further.

Very good game. There's A LOT OF content, rather high quality of art and most importantly, emotions. Character development is rarely seen in porn games. And yeah, it is still porn game, but compared to others there;re much more emotions and chemistry between MC and his harem.

A House In The Rift (AHITR) is a rather wholesome and comfy game with a big emphasis on quality animations.

The comfy nature comes from just roaming a seemingly heaven like house with a bunch of sexy women, and the wholesome aspect from being an MC that spends more time romancing them then abusing them.

This game feels unlike many others simply just because the animations are fantastic.

So far, the story of this game isn't clear in terms of overall plot and is more focused on exploring each girl's past and situation.

It's a universe that, while vague, still feels fleshed out and with its own set of logic.

As for the "fun plot" goes, this game offers quite a lot with the first girl. One can only expect it to flesh out the other girls as it continues. Like other top quality free roam games, there's a lot of sex you can repeatedly have outside of a gallery mode.

I guess I can only suggest having more comfy music variety during the free roam, and I hope to see how the house affects the characters overtime.

Man what a cool premise for a game. You end up trapped in an extradimensional house that is pulling various women from fantasy worlds into it. Extremely well written, with neat open ended gameplay. Lots of content currently and I can't wait for more.

I lyke the spank in the fridge most games don't have that option

This is just a review of how much I love this game.... specially Rae!!!... so far she's my favorite character to all the nsfw game I played.

The story are pretty great, the girls and their story'ish are pretty good and the render are really good as well... just not a big fan of muscles tho so I'd pass to namoi and yuna, but aside from that I really like this game

One of my favorite games here. Beautifully made animations, the game is interesting and addictive. The characters are varied so everyone will find something for themselves here. We have an elf, sorceress, imp, orc, even a pirate. The only thing missing is the girls' voices but you can't complain.

I try to do my .7 review number thing for all these games, but this one has a more incremental version numbering. Anyway, this game is good. I mean, you're still mary-sue MC, but it sorta fits here, and you can kinda dictate the MC personality a bit. The story is the universe implodes around you and you suddenly endup floating in your house in a rift. Not much more than that. Over time you walk through your dreams and pull more girls into the house. Stockholm syndrome happens after two days and you have naughty fun times. The story actually moves a bit, its surprising! I know! The characters are animated more than built in poses and animations. The characters somewhat subvert expectations. The elf's verbal tick is annoying to me. The pirate is fun and the orc was surprising. SUBVERSION OF EXPECTATIONS IN A PORNGAME WHATTTT?! It's really hard to find much to gripe about the game other than maybe near the end of content you have to sleep through entire weeks to get to the next event and Naomi's nipples change color in the newer events. (which is only really a thing for me because I like when they're lighter than the skin color but that's a ME thing..) Honestly I can't bang on my desk in anger about the game with furrowed brow after scraping my grimy knuckles on the ground like my last few reviews. There is ACTUAL time and effort put into this and everyone should support this Dev. One last little thing I like is there's not space for 35 other girls. It's almost like a tighter game is more enjoyable and doable. WHO'DA THUNK IT.
