A question about your rating system

I started a search for the highest-rated games today.
How can it be that a game with a 5.0 rating (35 ratings) is only listed at number 49? Another 5.0 game (22 ratings) is only listed at number 316, when dozens of those games are listed with a 4.5?
How many 5.0 games with more than 10 ratings are there? According to the current list, you'd have to check each page individually to find one.

Regards, Mercedes

Because it isn't sorted purely by rating only, as it is written in the selection mask:

What I find more interesting, as I've tested it out only moments ago. You can do the same in the normal forum: https://f95zone.to/forums/games.2/?order=rating&direction=desc
It still have higher rated games down the list, yet, there is no indicator her that say that this sorting would be anything other than strictly be based on the ratings.
You can also see in this thread that the ratings don't start at 5.0, but also that the number of ratings doesn't really matter. The publication period is also highly variable. The algorithm definitely needs to be optimized here.

they use a bayesian average. nr of reviews matters, at least up to a point

They can do, whatever they want, but they should name it accordingly.;)
It is named "weighted rating" on the LU page, what in my eyes is correct. If you sort the threads directly in the game forum, then it is sorted according to the ratings and that name don't fit with the sorting.
Thus, either rename the sorting filter (and name it the same as in the LU page) or change the sorting algorithm that it fits the name in the description.

i'm sure renaming "ratings" to "weighted ratings" in the games filter is on the very top of the list of the most important things to do. :Kappa:

I always assumed it was literally what it says, "weighted rating", meaning it doesn't weigh all ratings equally. Which makes since because older ratings won't reflect the current state of the game due to updates and time.

Therefore, I assumed that weighted ratings has some sort of basic algorithm which sorts games by rating, prioritizing more recent ratings vs. total score.

So, if a game has 5 stars, but the ratings are old or has recently received some lower grades, vs. a game with 4.5 stars but has a bunch of new 5 star ratings, then the 4.5 star is prioritized. I also used to think that thread activity (comments, likes etc.) also played a factor, but I'm not so sure anymore.

The weighted rating system is like the animated tag. A 5 star game could be complete crap and an animated one have nothing but static images in it.
