I would like to suggest you start there.

She tells you why she doesn't want to sell you her horse, so solve the problem for her (i.e., get her a different animal or make it look like the horse is sick when she's not around.)The merchant didn't want to sell the horse to me
i flashback to golden sun and chrono trigger for having good balance with minimal grinding required. though i'll be honest, i'm not expecting a one man dev team to pull that off easilyI think i read in one post that walkthrough updated each 0.1.0, So 6.1.0 it seems(i maybe wrong here, i just repeat what i read in post).
I did not seen any RPG game with good balance with open world. It is almost not possible, many Devs just try to use Autoleveling to try fix it(it's not working).
That's because Frank is alive, you saved him. He's always guarding Arenfield and you don't have to pay, also he counts as a guard.View attachment 4780994
Is this a bug per any chance? I have 14 well trained/armored guys but I cant fully protect all three locations nor recruit any more mercs because the game thinks I already have 15/15. But I really do have only 14. This has led mercs dying to attacks at Penny's farm south of Arenfield, I think they're much more vulnerable to this when below strength.
So, just curious whether we're actually supposed to be able to get 15 to fully man all three locations or if my save is bugged. Its an old save, dating back to 0.40
Hmm thanks but he doesn't really seem to 'count' as a guard or maybe this warning doesnt take it into account, because if I lower my guards at Arenfield by one to fully protect the farm, I get this warning instead even though yes, Frank is indeed alive. That's because Frank is alive, you saved him. Nah there's definitely something wrong with your save.Hmm thanks but he doesn't really seem to 'count' as a guard or maybe this warning doesnt take it into account, because if I lower my guards at Arenfield by one to fully protect the farm, I get this warning instead even though yes, Frank is indeed alive.
So things would actually work better if Frank was dead, I guess? ;p Ideally, Arenfield should show Frank as a permanent guard or something, only letting you allocate 4 and never saying it's not enough.

He mentioned playing in an old version of the game, so that's probably it.Did you cheat perhaps with variables?
Try to take all of guards out of Arenfield, save game, load game and try to place them again.
It is not normal if Frank is alive, or maybe there is problem with Frank's variables.
Yeah, i reread his post again and also think that save must be too outdated right now or just accumulated errors in save.He mentioned playing in an old version of the game, so that's probably it.
I know, i mean save file.Oh I didn't mean that I'm still playing an outdated version, I'm playing the latest build. I meant my current save started years ago, yes, so maybe things went wrong along the way when I changed builds and such.
I will try DeMoS666's idea.
Isn't your image showing a red mark in the available spots for mercenaries (top right)?View attachment 4780994

I have one suggestion, i updated my outdated save this way but it is too annoying will be for you... Yeah maybe I should restart when the next version hits, anyhow. At this point I pretty much finished the available content for this version, anyhow.
Its a old save for sure, I have low 3-digit hours on it (with some AFK time no doubt), two in-game years played, extremely high levels etc. But if it's bugged, sooner or later I'll have to restart, sure. Was hoping to only do that once 1.0 hits, but I realize that may be years away. Thanks for your help, folks!
Appreciate the help, but that top-right red mark is actually just the amount of armors I have in storage at camp. I did try to recall everyone, save, reload and reasign, but it didn't fix the issue unfortunately.Isn't your image showing a red mark in the available spots for mercenaries (top right)?
Try recalling all the mercenaries to the base and see what happens. Maybe you've had a merc die and you need to recruit a new one.
The game also allows you to build further tents (idr exactly when but should be down on the Lyvia's questline) including having a reserve in the camp for whenever someone dies, so you don't actually have to restart the game for this alone.
IIRC you'll get an option to increase your troops when trying to find raven but yeah if your save is that far back then you'll need to start over, I'm surprised you've not run into more issues tbh.Appreciate the help, but that top-right red mark is actually just the amount of armors I have in storage at camp. I do agree it's not something I *need* to restart over, though. I could handle the town's mining no longer being automated for example. As for having a reserve, I can't really because it's capped in my game due to my issue but so far it's not totally game-breaking either. This being said Im supposed to have finished Lyvia's questline so far and even though I got to clear more space in the camp, I never got the option to raise the cap above 15 (well, 14) soo something does seem to have gone wrong. This was pretty long ago, back in 0.5.1.9 I think.
Overall the save always worked fine for the most part. And in similar games like Peasant's Quest, I also have a old multi-year save that always survived all updates just fine.IIRC you'll get an option to increase your troops when trying to find raven but yeah if your save is that far back then you'll need to start over, I'm surprised you've not run into more issues tbh.
Peasant quest is more fragmented, questwise, from what I remember.Overall the save always worked fine for the most part. And in similar games like Peasant's Quest, I also have a old multi-year save that always survived all updates just fine.
There's one oddity that might have broken my merc questline/cap now that I investigated further. I just noticed I have the 'Next Baron of Kirlic' questline as failed following take Liandra away and that happened before Lyvia's quest portion where you eventually get to assign mercs to the traderoute... so there's a chance it could have been some sort of old long-patched quest conflict that disabled part of the mercenary content (and cap expansions) because I never got to see the end of Lyvia's stuff properly.
Overall, noticing something not working has been rare, though.
Here you go, but this is the save where I made Kate pregnant a second time so I don't know if that changes things with the game.
What version of the game are you playing in?
Edit: Even on the current version it's bugged, I used your save file and reported the bug to chyos.
