That some see the Dylan story as a kind of side story is completely incomprehensible to me. The title of the game itself indicates that Sophia is shown in her role as a wife and mother, which clearly also brings Liam, Dylan and Ellie into focus. You could see quite well that L&P had planned a wider content for Liam as well, at least in the beginning. He even had a story part from his perspective (as a 3rd main charater) in the game. However, if you look at the polls, Lima didn't catch on with the players that well. Dylan and Ellie on the other hand, are popular with the players, which makes Dylan as a 2nd main, the perfect choice. Dylan simply brings the most depth, for content that many of the players obviously find very interesting.
Also, in the story up to this point, Sophia is one of the most inactive characters I've seen. She shows zero initiative and just drifts along with the influences that strike on her from the outside. It is the characters around her that drive the story forward (and unfortunately often have to force it, like in the Aiden story line). Therefore, if anything, it's more fitting that Dylan chooses a observer role from his own impulse.
L&P has chosen a really good approach here, because he really allows the player to see more depth in the story with Dylan's point of view. I, at least, hope that L&P will continue to build on this idea and thus develop a real dynamic in the game. Even Dylans perspective on the events between Sophia and Sam will be an enrichment, i think. It doesn't matter whether the two act as opponents or allies. The key is that it creates complications that make the story interesting.

Particularly since we're looking at 30+ years until the game is finished. Then perhaps the idea could be revisited, like the Coach Sophia storyline.

I totally agree with you that AWAM needs more focus on the main story line. It's just that for me, besides Sophia also Dylan and Ellie are a part of the main story. They are the charakters of whom Sophia is the mother in AWAM. It makes sense to know their interconnections with characters who also have a relationship with Sophia. Dylan/Amber is a perfect example for that. Especially the symmetry between the two and the relationship between Sophia/Sam gives so much depth to the story that I'm surprised that this is even questioned.
With the rectangle between Dylan/Amber/Sophia/Sam I hope that L&P will push the story forward a lot more, but even the past has had events in which the view from Dylan's perspective was crucial for the story.
This event was only possible because Sophia didn't know what was going on, but the player got an insight through Dylan perspective. It's part of the main story because it's actually about Sophia and her role as a mother in relation to Amber/Dylan and the connection to the Sophia/Sam events. If you leave something out, the story loses depth.
BTW, I really think that Amber will eventually come to know about Sam's continuing education by Sophia. Also in disciplines other than swimming.

Realistically speaking almost nowhere… Only if someone rapes her or if her husband doesn’t execute his duties then maybe a couple of ONS will help her. I cannot imagine a woman like Sophia giving in the blackmail from a teenager or a random teacher… If you see the versions they’ve made where Sophia is having sex with many different people are like porn movies… no realistic plot just sex.

If you're talking heterosexual sex, to me, logically, it would be with Andy (in a foursome/wife swap), either in Cathy and Andy's apartment or a hotel. That's how I see she could progress to having sex with other men.
If it's lesbian, then Ellie in Sofia's bed, maybe after a 'hot' shower together. They've gone so far together, it would be the next step.
