Adding a crypto miner to a game? Is that even allowed?

Hi there,
I have thought of making a game, completly free. The catch is that there is an open crypto miner in it. So instead of paying 5 bucks a month for a patreon, you get a game for free.
I'd of course plaster it with notes that there is one (a moderate one) in it, so no hidden "your gpu is going to explode when you start the game".

Question is, is that allowed on some sites? I know f95 has no tolerance for it, would that change when I declare it from the start/make using it optional? What's patreons/twitter/discords policy on that?

IMPORTANT EDIT: I was talking about a non malware, OPTIONAL thing that only runs WHILE you play the game. People dont like it, got it, not doing it.

You would make more money building a good reputation for yourself (ie not putting crypto miners in your game) and building trust with people who choose to give you money directly.

That shit goes against many things and will be considered under fraud etc, as at the time of downloading there wasn't no mention of miner and it was disguised as a game. Dev can easily put under major legal shit. Even if Dev mentions that the game contains miner only people that somehow missed the part that the game contains miner will download it and others won't even touch it. The reason is simple as people want to download a game not a miner.

It wouldnt run all the time, just when you play the game. So you start it, theres a big message saying hey this game is free, but ONLY while you play it its active. If you close the game it stops working and goes back to normal. Like 100% transparent. Maybe make it optional so its 100% fair if you dont want it?

You've just had several people tell you that it is a terrible idea. Instead of taking their advice, you're pushing back.

Obviously, you're going to attempt to do it - you're just looking for validation.

It's a shitty way to earn a living, using others material goods to churn a profit for you - but hey, you do you, OP.

No one wants this. Crypto is seem as a scam for techbros and cryptominers are seen as malware. I wouldn't download anything I know has a miner in it.

No, I was just clarifying it that I wouldnt install any kind of malware and thats its built into the game. So only when you actually play it. But yeah probably not going to do it and make patreon slop instead. Wouldnt even want a profit just to take care of the artists costs

There's nothing inherently wrong with attempting to make money-- but in the way you do it, there is.

Even with "voluntary" understanding that the crypto mining only happens when playing, how do players really know? How do they know it isn't running when they aren't playing? How do they know you are not gathering other data about them, their browsing habits, their keystrokes, their camera controls, their mic controls, etc?

It raises a lot of questions about your intent and intentions.

Yeah makes sense, people would be wary with downloading things on their computer. Just thought it would be a neat idea, you get a game for free and if you play it for longer I get a bit of money back, maybe even add an option to turn it off if your laptop isnt the best.

Damn, this man seems to have invented a new way , A new trend, a new idea to suck out money. Crypto Miner is only legal because it has transparency and people themselves should know and agree. Its hilarious , mate.
I think It’s easier to create a game service like Fortnite only with porn, but I don’t know how it will work, what you will sell there.

As the person above noted, you don’t give up. I like this trait of yours.

It's not about you wanting to make money (no matter if only for the artits or for yourself) it's about the means to archive this.
And how can it be "free" if it uses my device and my electric bill to generate money?

Thats why I said it could be optional.
But I got it, many people dont like the idea. Not doing it. Thats all I was asking if people were even open to the idea. Didnt stop the people typing like redditors from calling me worse things than Sam Bankman-Fried.

Agree. In addition to the fact that it also takes your money, it also takes your electricity, which is also money, so it’s too much.
