This one is alright. I don't hate it. Which, coming from my cynical self says, hopefully, quite a bit. If nothing else, the story has direction. The ending is some Sopranos type crap, there's a time jump mid sentence that isn't even emphasized, and it's just kinda over. But there is an actual story. It could use a lot of work, and there's a lot of technical issues, but its competent. And it took me a couple days to get through this so I don't have a detailed recollection of all my misgivings, but I have some mental notes.
The story opens on MC, essentially a down on his luck guy with anger issues. I would say I'm happy to see a MC with actual character flaws, but there is never a moment he ever has to account for his actions. Anyway, he kills a guy, leaves town, and ends up getting a job at a mob boss' house as a groundskeeper. For whatever reason that is never explained, EVER, he faints and instantly falls in love with Alex, the boss' daughter right after meeting her. Soon after, she gets attacked by some goons, it's never explored but I guess we're meant to infer that it was the antagonist's fault, he saves her in one of his fits of rage and her voice is the only thing that has ever calmed him down. Then they let him in their crime ring.
Time goes on and MC learns how things work and Alex, being smitten with him, inches closer to MC. All while a few too many opportunities just land at MCs feet. Although, Alex has a girlfriend, Izzy, and she's possessive and jealous of the way Alex looks at MC and tries to kill him but doesn't. MC gets a critical choice to kill Izzy (I opted not to) and over time they all form a love triangle thing. There's a lot of busy work that MC has to do and having the boss' daughter dating him makes the boss have to use him a lot more and eventually he discovers a plot to take over the organization.
The characters are kinda simple, Alex the main love interest is a college girl that has been listening in on her dad's business and understands the life she will lead. Izzy, the second love, grew up with Alex has a mom that's not right in the head and has a temper, just like MC. Dima shows MC the ropes at first then later just gets demoted to weird stalker beta male for no reason. Boris, the boss, is grumpy but family oriented. Yuri the lovable oaf that wants to do more. Naryssa, ex call girl that is just a plot device to help MC read finance reports. Vanya the antagonist. James, MCs right hand man. And Olivia, the weird one.
Most of the characters are one note. Alex goes from college girl to ice queen all too fast. Izzy doesn't do much but act tough. And a lot of the interpersonal relationships could have been explored a little more, I feel. And usually I do really like the "Weird supernatural overarching story beats" but it's never explained why MC is possessed by a gorilla with a giant penis, he just is. And Olivia knows, and does something about it, but you're never made aware of what the hell is going on. And MC also has a healing ability somehow too? Okay. Those are just things you're meant to accept as the reader but it's not touched on more than once.
Oh and Vanya being the antagonist, just out of nowhere, BOOM. Bad guy. MC ACCIDENTALLY kills his partner in a fit of rage, for absolutely no reason. Never faces any repercussions for that, and it turns out that helps them later on, but still. And Vanya's plan, even though you are never told about this at all, is: Capture Izzy, kill Boris, his brother, then Alex and take over. Because Izzy and Alex are sisters. The point is brought up a total of three and a half times. Izzy's mom says it during a crazy rant, MC reiterates it, Boris wants "his girls" back, and Izzy asks "why did he wanna capture me?" and MC goes "Er... Um... Iunno..." which is why I said "and a half." Then no one ever talks about it or questions it again.
Now, the technical issues are EVERYWHERE. There are so many times when the wrong character is made out to be speaking. And sometimes it's an important line that matters who says it. Like when Olivia is talking about the mystical stuff, instead it says James is saying it. And there's a lot of times where the wrong side image is shown. There's a character named Vincent, and I don't think he has his own side image because it is never right when he's talking. And the UI is never consistent, no reason why, just choices randomly placed all over the screen. The Alex and Izzy realization is a different menu format, and suddenly Alex's sex name for you pops up eventually. It's just all over the place. And at the end the renders take a nose dive in quality. Like they didn't get the chroma key right? Its weird to look at.
Sure as this project went on the animations got a lot better, but the poses especially for the faces seemed dead. On top of everyone's very stiff and robotic deliveries of lines it just bogs this one down.
Bottom line, it's not a bad story. Enough sex scenes for a lot of people on here I guess. It's just stiff and robotic feeling a lot of the time with below average facial posing. But if you're looking for an okay crime story give it a try.
