There is a blender for artists build which follow Blender branches (I mean this is not an old version, it has a community which stick to blender main) but has a more artists friendly UI. You can give it a try.

If youre not making a 3D game. Unity might be a bit overkill and bloated for the task, any 3D engine would be.
And yes. games engines are complicated. what did you expect, click and play? (just wait until you try SDL
:p)
You need to invest a lot of time reading the documentation, api, looking at examples, etc etc.
Being a programmer and artists are two different things. most people are not good at being both. (ofc, there is always exceptions).

I think you are doing the right thing on focusing on Blender. Its a way more powerful tool.
But like any tool. you need to know how to use it. Learning Blender's in's & out will takes months & years to master.

You should also probably start off with a simple game engine first. i would think renpy is a good option as it uses python.
And python is a rather easy language to learn and understand.
+ there are a ton of game here you can decompile and use as examples :p

Make all the art, stills and animations, logos, icons etc in Blender/Gimp and put it together in renpy. :)

How experienced are you in 3D? If none, Daz is going to be an easier start than Blender. The way Daz presents stuff like lighting, posing, and some of the easier camera stuff comes across much easier than Blender. You can pick up lighting and such in Daz without spending much, if anything. You can pick up the basics at your own pace, and once you feel comfortable with them, you can move to Blender. Having strong knowledge of more universal elements means one less thing you have to learn from scratch, which allows for a smoother learning process. But, imo, it's worth it to get familiar with Daz, even if you work solely with Blender.

As for making the game in Blender, 99.5% of the AVNs you see made in Blender are making very little from scratch. Many use Daz models and Diffeomorphic or something from Smutbase as a base. Mixed with stuff like Sketchfab, 3DWarehouse, Turbosquid/CGTrader, asset libraries, etc. and you'll have everything you need. The stuff I've made from scratch in Blender is more niche stuff like glass tabletops or steps. But it's not feasible or efficient to make everything.
