Ren'Py - Amity Park [v1.0.2] [GZone]

  1. 1.00 star(s)

    Detective Cancer

This game doesn't respect your time, it actively disrespects it.

The completely nonsensical sandbox with nothing to do in it but grind and pass the time returns with a vengeance. You want to talk to someone and see a cute/sexy scene? Oops only one a day and they're arbitrarily scattered. You wanna grind bullshit points for your ghost powers? Oops, can't do that. Go to your designated plot point and get beaten up. Oh, you think the next fight is also scripted? Nope, you gotta win that one buddy! Try again :)

Part of the reason people play these "parody" games is having the characters you know react to stuff but everyone is out of character, people barely resemble caricatures of their original selves and while that's partly expected often their traits are overdone to the extreme. The story is just a bunch of common porn tropes strung together anyway so it doesn't matter what they were originally, they're all just generic plot devices so who cares? Might as well look at an album you can come up with the plot on your own.

I was wondering about the inconsistent art quality, turns out in recent updates they're using AI to "help" the same way Steam games "create" and then "enhance" so they can upload their slop to the storefront. Great. Maybe that'll help speed up development but we know it won't. Eventually all these games reach the "rework/remake" phase of development because the dev is too afraid to step forward... this is there now, and they've chosen AI.

Combat? Why does this have combat? Why is it so bad? Why does it expect you to win randomly and then makes you lose anyway? You could spare people the trouble by not having it. Who cares? It doesn't affect the plot in any way anyway, except when it does, and then it doesn't. This just makes the player annoyed and takes all agency, the little they had to begin with, away from them and for what? To give you another number to raise arbitrarily to gate you and pad out time! Fuck else are you gonna do?

This game is 7 years old as of writing this, that's 2017, how many indies have made extremely successful HUGE games with actual gameplay despite their teams being 2 to 5 people total since then? How many are making some now? How many have called it quits after realising they reached too far?

I've seen entire fanbases grow and self-destruct, MMOs show up and die, the face of the internet change permanently several times, and yet this remains. Unfinished, and tricking people with its versioning system for another lacklustre sandbox flag search with a bunch of tropey interactions and shit "combat".

This is cancer, the perpetual work in progress, a prime example of it.

not a bad VN, but a terrible sandbox.

The story is fine, nothing special, but moderately interesting. The characters are kept close to the original, but still sexy. The scenes are ok, but could use some more pictures and animations. Like if i cum on someones face, i want to see that happening or atleast the result.
Now the gameplay... the gameplay is atrocious. I don't know why this is a sandbox. There is nothing in it, there is no exploration, no hidden scenes, no looting, NOTHING. If this was made into a VN instead, there would be no content or enjoyment lost, but it would save the player from the endless search for that one location at one of the three times to progress the story.

TLDR: It's not worth the time you will spend just clicking at each location

I'll give this a 4 it has good potential just need to adjust certain things to make things more seamless with certain plot points. Like without getting too much into it the part where you have to gather Orgon should be more of a bonding experience with each girl that Danny is interested in and may explore more of their personality like take inspiration from some fics another is when choosing to gather Orgon during the Ember event the creator should at least allow you to choose between two of the choices available like one of them is super relevant to character development for Desire and another bonding session with Maddie or kate since there isn't much content around her like dude got to be smart this game is what 7 years? Should have been finished years ago or at least the level of content is more substantial but at least its here and hoping that maybe fans might pick up and make it a project

Looks very nice, also nice music and writing but totally dysfunctional sandbox

Starts really strong, but after just a couple of game days there is simply nothing to do but grind, (work for money and train skills) with no evident reason to do except to.. pass the time.

Since the game is designed as sandbox in a way that you have maybe 1 event per day and almost no random events or things to find, yet you keep unlocking new .. empty.. areas ( where maybe something will happen in 50k clicks from now) you spend your time "playing" this game just clicking and clicking till your fingers start hurting.
Honestly after first few days (called "episodes" in this game) you will probably have over a 1000 clicks wondering the empty sandbox checking if any of the few npcs have any new conversations till you finally find something that can be labeled as new content.

Really sad since the artwork is great both characters and enteriors, even the sandbox grind is ok.. if only there was some actual content to fill this emptiness...

It would be much better as a Visual novel but with so low content, if you would take away pointless grind, skipping days and wondering the empty map it would be a very short one.

In the current state definitely not worth your time

    Review as of v1.0

Bro finally comes back after more than half a year, makes random post that essential- SQUIRREL!!! Jokes aside the update itself is beyond mediocre for that 7+ month wait including the amount of bugs. Which I usually don't mention bugs in reviews... ever... they happen, but having 7 months of time to work on something as small as this update you sure as hell should have bug tested it as well.

I personally used to love this game when it came out. Even supported them when it came out for many months with real $ like I do to every developer on F95 that I like and actively enjoy their games. You almost never see Danny Phantom games and the ones that do come out become abandoned and/or on hold. However, the updates have always been mediocre and in such large gaps that this game was easily forgotten about despite me having it on my watchlist. Despite all that, the art was always good, even with the small amount available. The pictures were nice and made the game fun to look at. The story and writing were pretty good too, giving us something interesting to follow. But honestly, I think they should have added more CG scenes. Let’s be real, we don’t come to F95 to read books. We come for the 2D tiddies, and the game needs more of them to keep us happy. Adding more and better CG scenes would make the game much better.

This is pretty much a classic case of a developer that's in over his head and doesn't give two shits about his Patrons.

Yes everyone, I am also quite aware of the Reviewing Rules (Rule 3). However, if you read the comments this developer has been leaving since the recent update I personally feel that rule should be ignored in this case. In regards to Rule 4 I meet that requirement if you only count the sentences that are in compliance with rule 3.

So off the bat I need to say that I am not at all familiar with Danny Phantom. I'm aware that it exists, but that's it. I couldn't tell you what the show is about or any of the characters' names. So I have no clue how accurate the portrayals are, but the fact that I enjoyed this game without having any 'nostalgia factor' is a testament to how well made it is.

First off, I am a huge fan of games with "realistic" models. I don't mean that they look like real people, but rather that they look how they are supposed to look. I will never for the life of me understand why so many people seek out games where the porn characters only vaguely resemble the source material. Like, if you have a thing for Marge Simpson, why are you seeking out models with DDDDDD breasts and an ass a mile wide? That ain't what Marge Simpson looks like, bro.

But I digress. The story here is pretty well done, the models look exactly how they should, and there is minimal grind. My biggest complaint is that there is a whole lot of waiting around because you are only working on one questline at a time. Like if a questline requires it to be Sunday afternoon to progress and you just happen to hit it on a Monday morning, sorry, but there is literally nothing for you to do this week even though there are multiple LIs and it would make sense for you to be working on different quests simultaneously.

Despite being abandoned, I still think this game is worth your time, just be aware that the game is unfinished.

The sex scenes in this game are fantastic and some of the best produced in any game. There are branching cut scenes, which means you can't get all of them in a single run, but you can just cheat to get them all in the gallery later.

Disappointed the game isn't moving forward, but I was getting it for free anyhow, so eh.

Look let me just lay out my bias first.

I love danny phantom. the show was part of my bi awakening.

That being said lets break this down.

ART: The art is really good like all of the characters are similar to how they are in the show but amped up a bit. all of the girls look hot and the sex scenes ( particularly in the later half) are extremely well drawn. Even the battle scene is done well in an old school ff way.

Story: The story is well done. hits a lot of the same beats as canon but also is different that its fresh. I like the inclusion of orgzone as a means of making it pervy. the one new character feels like she fits really well and all of the other ones are in keeping to the original story. just you know porny. Each characters arch is really well written. I can definitely see branching arcs in the story so there is probably a fair amount of replay ability.

Gameplay: This is a VN with certain rpg elements. not a rpg story. the mechanics of the game don't concern me as much as the story. sometimes they feel a little bit samey but honestly I enjoy that as it gives you a little bit of a break form the story.

If I could give a decimal it would be a 4.75/5. but I will go a head and give it a 5 here. definetly if you enjoy danny phantom and are okay with the incest plot line, give this one a shot.

    [Version reviewed: v0.9.6]

Amity Park was this close to be a great parody, on par with games like Four Elements Trainer. But it isn't.

Drawings are great, very close the original show with a sexualization twist (duh).

Story is nice, the idea of fueling ghost power with human """emotions""" is pretty cool as well.

Gameplay is... meh. It's a fully linear game in free roaming mode, meaning you'll move between places until you're in the right place at the right time and something finally happens. No replayable events/scenes makes lots of places useless after they've been used. Combat system is okay, but I wish you battled actual ghosts to level up, not just grind a simulation.

Porn is the biggest issue to me.
    • The character with the most content is Maddie (Danny's mom) and I'm not into incest. She currently has 1 less scene than Sam, Paulina and Star combined. Jazz (Danny's sister) also has more scenes than any of the 3.
    • There's a branching at prom, where you'll choose amongst 4 girls: you'll unlock scenes for her and completely lock you out of the 3 others. It's weird because they all like either you or your alter ego. The dress-up system (and some interactions with other characters I think) is also exclusive to one of those routes. I'm okay with branching, but this one feels like a lazy attempt at replayability, like a GF route exept they don't become your GF.

I wish I could give this game a 4* because drawings and writing are really nice... But the "linear open-world" makes most places empty and useless, combined with the abundance of incest and somewhat lack of content for other characters (especially Sam, poor girl has 3 scenes despite being one of the characters you interact with the most) drops the score to 2*

TLDR: Good potential but lots of useless empty places, too much focus on incest (not my jam) and artificial branching that forces replay.

Mostly good artwork and seems pretty faithful to the source material. That said it does run into a severe linearity issue with a lot of characters and plotpoints introduced early on falling completely by the wayside. The strictly enforced episodic nature unfortunately only allows progress on one or two quests at time. Which could mean a lot of waiting before you can get to a character you're eyeing.

The game also virtually does not do repeatable interactions or random events. Moreover, almost every character is nowhere to be found on the map. Altogether, this makes the game feel very lifeless and void of interactivity. Most maps are hardly if ever used.

Whereas it's nice to have choices, currently the few meaningful choices in this game makes you feel like you lose out on a little too much and detracts from the harem nature of the game as the characters are unlikely to have many alternate scenes/routes.

There is potential for this to become a top tier parody game but a lot of work on these three issues needs to be put in before that potential is realized.

Five of five stars for the entirety of the game, but two of five stars for the current update as there is a major bug when you load the game to the main menu. It states that it has run into an error and if you skip it the game starts a new save file instead of letting you choose.

The game has or had the possibility to give us a less linear adventure that could have taken advantage of the ghost mechanics if it were an actual free roaming experience. But the developers have opted for an episodic linear adventure instead. There's all these rooms and places you can enter or visit from the very beginning, but nothing ever happens in them, besides the ocasional scripted quest scene with very little lewd content, but mostly in school and mostly just dialogue (they talk way too much in this game!). Seems like a bunch of wasted space and wasted possibilities. Why can't I just get invisible at will and peek on girls freely? This game could have a whole lot more endless random events. You should be able to ocasionally peek on your mom/sister taking a shower from the very beggining and escalate the lewd stuff you can do with or to them gradually. Get in their rooms at nigh and see what they are up to. Find them in the living room and kitchen sometimes. They visiting your room randomly. Spy on the girls bathroom and lockers room in school at will, etc. This game just isn't ambitious enough for its own good and that's a shame. I see a lot of wasted potential.

Let me say this absolutely clear - I LOVE Amity Park! I only just found out about the game last year ... in fact, it will be exactly one year in couple of weeks, it happened right after the Episode 8 Red Spectra got released. I loved the game not because of its drawing or kink or whatever, but because it made me laugh out loud. I needed a good laugh in my life, and AP hit the spot.

At the time I was unfamiliar with Danny Phantom cartoon, since it is way too modern for me (I grew up in the late 80s and early 90s) so it took me some time to realize that it was actually based off the cartoon but none of this took away the fun. I loved the Portal, Minecraft & other references in AP, I even assumed that Ember McLain was a strong reference to Ellen McLain, voice actress for GlaDOS in Portal franchise ... and many other games for that matter.

One of the strongest advantages, assets ... or whatever you want to call them of Amity Park over the other, similar games (adult ones or otherwise) is that it was never meant to be taken seriously. Thing is, most of the other games - especially adult ones always tend to look & sound serious ... and fail miserably! You probably know what I'm talking about, as you can see it just about anywhere you look. Some of those games try to dramatize every single situation in order to make it look more serious, but in the end it just looks plain weird because it is still ONLY & JUST the video game and nothing else.

And this is where Amity Park steps in - I was never under the impression that the game expected me (as the player) to take it seriously, and the entire flow feels kinda silly, goofy but in a good way. Same thing with Maddie ... personally I'm not into incest or similar kinks but playing Amity Park I never felt as if the main character was "me", that Maddie was "Mom" and/or that I'm some beefed up 18-yr old guy living some sort of twisted or pervy fantasy (again, the usual MC stereotype) but rather that I'm watching a silly cartoon for adults, a parody with the good sense of humor. And that is what keeps AP afloat in my opinion, and makes people want to become patreons to support it, in order to keep it going.

I know for the fact that it makes me want to become the patreon, and (assuming the game keeps on moving in right direction) I may just bite the bullet & become one eventually. Therefore, I sincerely hope that the game is here to stay and develop further into either direction ... episodic or otherwise, we shall see what the future holds. That being said, I do have certain doubts, questions & worries after playing through the latest 0.9.6 update but I'm going to save these for some other occasion. The update could have been better, yes but so far (at least) nothing had been dramatically changed or ruined to the point where I would want to back out. IMO, still the best game of its kind.

PS, I want to make it absolutely clear that I'm not rating the current update, drawing style or the characters, but rather the /entire/ game for what it is and for its overall value. And that is 5 out of 5 (y)

6 years in development and it shows. The art has gone up in quality, the story reimans somewhat the same. If you care about summertime saga but with a Danny Phantom skin, this is the game, well the only game.

At first, it was a simple game with good animation, a simple fight mode, and, of course, a lot of bugs.
Now the animation has been significantly improved. The combat system has been completely redesigned. The game scenario has become more logical. Kudos to the developers for taking the right direction for the game's development. I hope they will have the strength to complete it.
    Thank you for your attention!

There should be more content but it´s fine.

The characters all look very good except jazz her face is a little weird but everyone else is good.
I like the sex animation not amazing but decent.
    The dialogue is okay too.
The fights are not good one of the biggest problems.
The gameplay otherwise is a simple sandbox.

If you are a fan of Danny phantom you should check this out.

I think the game looks really great regarding the art, but boy, is there tons of text to read! Right now the ratio is too hard for my taste, it feels like 90% reading and 10% lewd scenes.

In chapter 5 where I am right now mom said from now on I could come down to the lab at day and get a hug, but it simply isn't possible, which I found disappointing. Also she's practicing yoga every sunday since chapter 2 or so, MC said he would maybe join her another time, but I never got the option to do so. These are little disappointings here and there that could be avoided if the pacing was at least a bit faster.

I like the slow burn though, but it's too slow in this game. Sometimes it's unclear what to do if a quest comes up, often you'll need to finish other things first. I had "What are Tucker & Sam up to?" in my quest log, but I couldn't find them. I figured out after a long ass search that I needed to complete another quest before they appeared.

And that's my second last point of criticism: There's an open world, but you don't really get the choose what girl you want to progress with first. Which can be cool because it forces you to play through the game, instead of finishing your 2-3 fav characters and quit it, but I feel there could be at least some freedom inbetween. However, most of these issues could simply be resolved by shifting the ratio between lewd scenes and reading.

Even an occasional school day where you meet others in the corridor escalates quickly into a roman with a lot of boring and pointless information.

Lastly, it's a bit disappointing that scenes are animated but if you decide to cum, the scenes turn into still pictures. Why not let the character cum as long as the player wants and let the player decide when to end the animation? Or at least, after the cum, leave some final loop animation that the player can decide to end.

Overall I see a lot of potential in this game if it will be polished in these points.

Excellent if slightly melodramatic writing, reasonably engaging gameplay. Art is inconsistent but overall high quality. Development is slow as heck, but the game has charm and sex appeal in spades. It's a top-tier AVN by any standard.

    latrop16

The game is very good, but too many dialogs for my taste, I skipped most of them.
The art is however has a high quality and looks pretty much like original with better textures and even more sexier and better looking characters than from original cartoon.
I have only one big complain, animation sounds aren't consistent. Some animations have moans and other sex sounds, but many has only the background music.
