Ren'Py - Another Chance [v1.59] [TimeWizardStudios]

A VERY EXCELLENT GAME
(My apology, English is not my mother language therefore this review may have a few/a lot grammar and spelling mistakes).
The review has been written on version 1.59 and it's based on my opinion as well as my preferences so it's better to be used as a reference to whether you may want to try it or not.

The Goods:
- Girls are plenty and interesting, they are their own color, you have sporty, athletic one, a cute and kind one, submissive low maintenance lady, sassy smart girl, weirdo, goth,... You name it.

- The conversations are very interesting, they reflect how you play and give you an immersion base on what you choose: being kind, being funny or just a brute. And I really like how we have conversations with the girls.

- Sprites are cute, it's very distinctive since it's hand drawings instead of using common "Eroge Engine".

- Choice matters is a real deal! Not every choices but you can choose how to act in situations and they have consequences that worth thinking and calculating.

- Sandbox with skippable minigames, which is great especially for people who doesn't interested much in those. And it has many minigames too!

- The build up, the emotions in scenes (sex and other) are astounding. It does give me the feeling of a romance story.

The Bads:
- Heavily cliff hanger! Splitting to multiple quests/chapters is a great way to chop off your works and control the game's pace but it's also destroy the flow. When it becomes exciting and suddenly the storyline abruptly ended, waiting for another quest to continue it really kills the mood.

- Some characters' actions and words are questioning since it relates to every problems in the story but our main decided to shrug it off.

- You can skip minigames but the game still have some repetitive boring actions to torture you. Like running back and ford filling your bottle with soda and flush it to the river.

- Sex scenes are worsen since Season 2. I still play this game because of the story, the conversations and the girls so I don't mind if there aren't many hot scenes but at least make it enjoying.


The Medians:
- The game focuses more on the RPG experience so you don't get many sex compared to other games in this site. But I am fine with this, I even prefer it this way though the dev should improve the sex scenes.

- Bugs: The one I encounter most is the overlay bug when I have multiple quests at the same time, some will block the others until they are done. Without handling them correctly they can make your game stuck. My solution for this is to let player decide when to do which quest however it may ruin the immersion.

- The story, the drama, the main plot's pacing is slow but since it also gives us more time to fooling around with girls I can take it.

- Not a Harem: many people won't like it.


Overall:
An awesome game but having some annoying flaws make it infuriating sometimes, I rate this game 4.5/5. Enjoy!

man i have tried soooo many times to get into this game. but everything is super tedious. whether thats to navigate, or do any steps of any quests. its not rewarding either. i played for an age, and couldnt get a sex scene, even with stats maxed.

its so fucking boring.

the two stars are for the art style and animation. but the story is shit, the execution is boring and dull. ive tried multiple times to get into this game. and its really hard to enjoy it for its terrible quests/narrative. and with just how long it takes to get sex scenes. they're so few and far between each other. that this game is not a game for fapping. no save files in sight, even when skipping chapters, theres no "hey lets fuck" repeatable scenes. this is a sandbox on rails, which is not a true sandbox.

Edit: I replayed the game recently, and it seems I misremembered some things a little. I'll mark my amendments and additions with strikethrough and red text. My rating stayed the same. For full transparency I edited the review a day or two after posting it. It had received 4 likes before the update.

It starts off good, it seemed interesting, wide array of characters, mc is written alright, while the set-up is some standard isekai stuff it seems to have some mystery element to it which is fed some breadcrumbs every now and then. As I continued to play I reached the conclusion that there is entirely too much clicking and I'd never beat it without the walk-through tips, which in turn just turn the game into a chore of following directions and clicking through a bunch of stale bullshit - it doesn't feel like a game or adventure after a short while - it feels like a captcha I need to pass to see some tits. I love going back and forth and refilling the water bottle 5 times, or clicking to navigate through the entire school only for an hour to pass and the character placements to shift. A lot of the "puzzles" or interactions seem so incredibly out of left field and irrelevant that I am certain it would be statistically impossible for anyone to stumble upon those answers without the in-game walk-through. You seemingly can pick quests, but then it turns out you need to beat some before others become available, which defeats the purpose and ends up just being more unnecessary captcha clicking. At some point I started skipping dialogue, many of the characters don't feel like actual characters, they're all so over the top they're incomprehensible. At least 2 or 3 characters feel like a collection of one-liners rather than actual people. I feel like I'm having a stroke reading half of the dialogue that the goth and sci-fi girl spout. I've given up trying to understand the dialogue and story. (I've since changed my mind a little, I still absolutely loathe Maxine (newspaper girl with the glasses and felt cap), and appreciate being able to pick the "I don't want to deal with this shit" option, but didn't really enjoy that the MC suggested he'd be interested in her romantically at the start. Goth/art girl (Jacklyn) is still weird, but is not as egregious as I remembered. She's still some flavor of "random xd", but I guess it's okay for the most part. Don't know why she specifically is locked into having to pick between her and the sister character. The few characters that seem to at least attempt to be people seem to just not be all that likable: maybe I'm missing something but why is the sister character so abusive even after you become closer with her (and why was she in the first place, she genuinely seemed disgusted by mc's existence) I misremembered this somewhat. It's not as egregious as I'd thought. A history of being at each other's throats is suggested through dialogue, though it can be just a little grating at times after having gotten closer - sometimes being nice to her means having to swallow disrespect, one that is suggested to have been earned through MC's behaviour before the events of the game; blonde cheerleader girl is so over the top irredemably selfish and cruel I really can't comprehend wtf anyone was possibly trying to go for with her. Whole thing is some twilight zone shit, I get whiplash reading this stuff. (While there seems to be at least some attempts at nuance I feel they're lost. The game likes to overreach and really go over the top in moments that just completely take me out of the story). There are some nice moments with a few of these characters, but then once they pass it goes back to whatever the fuck they were in-between them and I can only groan in frustration. It doesn't feel comprehensive, I can't reconcile those moments with the way these characters continue to act outside of them.

There are so many bizarre out of place moments that seem to just be brushed aside by the MC so casually that it is perplexingly frustrating. There is literally no other reason as to why someone would sit idly in these situations other than the fact that It'd massively shorten the game. The plot at times demands the MC to be a mouth-breather.

Maxine admits to so many weird and immoral fucked up things without offering any explanation and it's just brushed aside as some sort of kooky idiosyncrasy. Oh you committed a war crime, how quirky.

Sex scenes are nice underwhelming, some of them have a nice set-up and decent amount of intimacy, though there is far too much faffing about in-between them and they're far too short for how much shit you go through to get to them, so they feel a bit out of place and the general pace almost sterilizes them. The internal monologue is nice, and I appreciate the intimacy and suggested emotional weight of the event, but the actual sex scenes are one single position, with 2 or 3 keyframes and are too short and incredibly visually underwhelming. While the art is nice, the "animations" are terrible.
Having the transition skipping setting on breaks nsfw-scene animations. Most of the time it cycles between 2-3 keyframes with the ren'py transition.
Edit again: It turns out that some scenes are properly animated later in season 2, but most of the scenes are as described above.

I don't know how long this game is trying to be, can't get a feel for that at all.

I don't expect anyone to actually wank playing this, don't expect anyone to actually enjoy the gameplay or dialogue for half of these characters. It's amazing how much people are willing to put-up with as long as you dangle some tits in front of them.

While the story is somewhat interesting, it is full of strange tonal shifts which constantly take me out of it. The gameplay feels like filing taxes, and even with the instructions you are bound to miss out on things due to the nature of the game's narrative structure - this would then suggest a replay to see how things could have been different. This has some sort of meta appeal given the game's plot, but the gameplay is such a fucking mindless chore, learning that I've missed out on some key things just pisses me off monumentally, because fuck clicking through all of that again just to change one or two choices I'd missed out on.

The choice of a semi-open world seems to not be utilized properly, and even feels detrimental to the experience, as you'll be most likely just following directions and clicking through the slightly awkward navigation system to pick up inexplicably random item #37 from a room you'd otherwise never bother to venture to at all. Who the fuck would think to combine a lollipop with a plastic fork to fiddle with a power breaker, much less leaving one of 2 specific (but entirely logically disconnected from the current quest) items in some mysterious desk that transforms them overnight into electrical tape. There are so many random items. You use a dead beaver carcass in combination with coloured paper to make confetti. Without the walk-through this is impossible.

You might even need an additional walk-through to not miss some choices that lock you out of later quests. Tips guide game-play (which items to use, how to combine them, where to go, who to talk to), not decisions. Finding out in season 2 that you have to click through all of s1 again because you missed out on one or two key moments somewhere and are now locked out of a quest is a dick-punch, because this gameplay left without any sense of discovery is like walking around in a circle with sand in your asshole.
Edit again: It seems to me now that some characters are paired in a x or y sort of thing where you can only romance one of them. I guess the way to go is to only do the sidequests for the characters you want to engage with from these pairs if you want to experience all of it, and another run with the other ones. It would've been nice to know this earlier, especially since there is entirely far too much clicking. I also have no way of knowing if this won't be changed later. I don't know If you're meant to only romance one character per run or whatever the fuck, and I'm honestly tired of this. I won't be editing this review further, fuck this, it's not worth the effort.

All in all, it's kind of interesting, to be honest. It's weird, jarring and frustrating, but some of the relationships are nice. If you're not paying and you're bored you could give it a try - it has a nice love story for at least one or two characters. It's quirky, weird and irreverent, even if it overplays it. That's the appeal. Internet addled brain that tries its hand at serious introspection only to include the most bizarre out-there decisions that undermine this house-of-cards of an experience. If you're looking for a wank, you'll be disappointed. It's too much of a time-sink for that, treat it as a bizarre visual novel. You could even enjoy it, but be prepared to sink at least 4 or 5 hours WITH the walk-through. It's got some signs of interesting writing, it's just being dragged down by so many weird choices and terrible design decisions. There is some enjoyment to be had, it's ultimately not without merit and is certainly the only thing like it out there, but I can't give it more than 2.5 stars.

This is one of my favorite games in the genre and, for me, one of the best 2d games. It is a sandbox game though and not everyone likes those but I like the extra control they give over what you choose to focus on and when.

-likeable diverse characters (Li's and MC)
-mostly an uplifting lighthearted, slice of life, story (although there are a couple of emotionally heavy moments and an option for a corruption route or two with some characters, but mostly an uplifting story)
-catchy music that fits the artstyle

There aren't many downsides I can think of. The game isn't finished yet but there is a good deal of content and stories to work through. If you want to explore every LI's path it will take multiple playthroughs since there are a few that are somewhat mutually exclusive. You can date many of the girls simultaneously though. Love the game. 5/5

This game is very good very enjoyable, you go around in school help girls , gaining their thrust, making them happy, and even get rewared. You make the most of your school life . unfortunately it has some downsides like most of the porn games. You need to follow walkthrough, using different certain items allows missions to unfold in different ways. Also, speed of updates for this game is too slow, this game probably be finished in 2027, if not later. The Developer is milking basically,

I discovered this game a few months ago and was quite surprised by its story. The message it conveys is beautiful, and I really liked most of the characters. If I had to say something negative, it would be:
- It requires too much energy (or time, I think) to interact with each object or move from one point to another; perhaps, depending on the character's stats, it could be improved.
- The gameplay can get a bit boring in the long run, depending on the player. And while there are some pretty fun minigames, you can't replay the entire story (like the DDLC reference, which is cute ), and some side quests may be unnecessary, but for me, the characters make it worthwhile.
- There should be an option to return home or to other places faster.
- It also has some bugs that often occur when trying to complete quests at the same time as others, and their schedules overlap (Season 2).
- If the character wants to improve as a person and truly wants to change, kissing another girl at that moment should make them feel bad. Are there any such cases? Yes, but it seems like this is his first time with any of the girls, or even his only romance, as sometimes it seems inevitable to have a good time or help someone without having sex with her.
Despite all these bugs and frustrating moments, I know the love they put into the game, so I hope the creators of this beautiful game improve in the future, because they're quite fixable.

P.S.: I read some criticisms about Maya's character in Season 2. I found them a bit exaggerated, but I guess they're a little annoying because her relationship with several of the game's missions was so forced that by the end of each mission, she wasn't as necessary as she seemed. However, I find the character fun and quirky.

This is a fun game, with an interesting story with the tropes of loser travelling back to his school days and redoing his life. The love interests are very interesting, excuse the redundancy, and the plot is interesting too even without the porn.
The art is okay to great, characters have good design and story, I enjoy the story more than the sex scenes sometimes. Good music. The sex scenes are hot and nice material, they feel rewarding to get.
While the game has its moments, the gallery system is fucking clunky and frustrating. Personally I don't like the sex scenes of Kate. Otherwise nice game, above average.

You can tell that this is the one of the most high effort/quality games on here, but it does have some serious flaws.

The game really tries to straddle the line between self-aware/facetious writing and having some serious story beats, which can cause a bit of emotional whiplash (Lindsey story!?). But I have to give it to them that I am interested in seeing where the mystery goes.

The game is A LOT of clicking though... I feel like it should not take as long as it does to sift through this game. Like, how do they come up with some of these quests...

It's nice that they have a quest guide: I would not even imagine playing the game without it

I don't know man this game feels weird, the tempo is weird I got lots of quests with no real way to solve them other than follow blindly the guide which isn't really a good way to play a game... I don't see a reliable way to increase stats other than random conversations and books you find lying around the school...

The whole "you need to finish this quest and this other and this other before you can do this one quest" is kind tiring, characters should have their own arcs and maybe some quests could or should intertwine but this is just a weird way to play.

I don't know I love this dating sim types of games with sandboxy themes but the whole deal is weird like even in the middle of quests you just jump in the bus and takes you home because you need to check your computer

While the game has its moments, the gallery system is clunky and frustrating, it's hard to tell what you've unlocked or missed. The recent shift toward heavy masochistic content feels forced and may turn off players who enjoyed the earlier tone.

Do you remember the golden age of graphical adventure's games? you know, really popular for pc in the 90's. Well, this games is like one of them, which implies that:

• Some events are trigger by picking random objects
• There are dreamlogic puzzles
• Paths are mutually excluse, sometimes temporarly, sometimes don't, and can be block if you start too many at the same time
• There is a tone of backtracking

Fortunately, it also include an asist mode that let you focus on character quest and solving puzzles. And a gallery of chapters in the main menu where it's possible to explore older paths.
Regarding to the girls, the charaters are, preatty, well animated and for the most part, interesting. Actually the stories are quite good so they could hook you even if you aren't a fan of the gameplay.

For me is clear 5 stars even if i get why some of you prefer something more fast with less clicking and backtraking. However, I grow up playing this kind of stuff as a toddler and in elemetary school with my old Windows 98-Me PC, and quest like this, seem normal

Lots of annoying railroading, drawn-out quests and a general lack of choices hurt the game pretty bad, but the characters and the story are, well, gripping. I wanted to see where things were going, I want to know more about the stuff going on in the world, I want to see how these characters and their relationships change with time and the MC's impact. That alone makes it a pretty good game, and while the ero scenes tend to drag a bit the art is good and the writing is too, generally.
The MC is a bit annoying though- complains about being short and unwanted and so on, but he towers over all the other characters in scenes, sports abs and a massive cock, and is a consumate expert in fucking, fingering and fellatio. It doesn't really add up. With some relatively minimal effort (mostly picking up books) at the beginning, he can pretty easily become a Gary Stu with the necessary charisma, intellect and strength to basically do whatever, and whoever.

It's a fun quest game, with an interesting story about a waste of oxygen travelling back to his school days, and redoing his life. The love interests are diverse enough to please everyone, and the plot is interesting even without the porn.

The art is okay; it isn't GOAT but it's good. Ditto the music. The sex scenes are nice fap material, and they feel rewarding to get. As of 1.52 some characters have no sex scenes yet.

There's a gallery; the interface is a mess (hint: press PgDown), but it allows you to rewatch some scenes. The game also allows you to start from any chapter, in case you don't want to redo the whole thing after update.

So overall 4/5 - not perfect, but good. I recommend giving it a try.

Thought this game was promising in terms of art and story but after enough time playing it it just draws out into a complete fucking slog and a boring clickfest. Completely unplayable without the built-in walkthrough and still annoying with it on.

The crafting system is pretty unique for a porn game but it literally devolves into "You combine Stick with Stick to make Two Sticks", "You combined Stick with Two Sticks to make Three Sticks", "You combine Spoon with Spice to make Spoonful of Spice", etc.

It's so confusing because the game is so pretty and polished and fleshed out in the UI and design elements, but the UX is just abysmal. Completely disrespectful of your time.

They even managed to make the gallery unfun - once you scroll down to find a scene and play it, you have to scroll all the way down again to hunt for the next one. No page numbers or anything, every scene is just in a straight line you have to scroll through from the top.

Baffling.

Arts great, characters are very interesting and i find myself enjoying the story more than the sex scenes all aside from Kate and the nurse.Kate is genuinely one of the worst characters in any game on this site. Saw someone talking about adding cucking to her route and oh boy would that turn so many people away from this game. Wouldn't listen to that guy. Though a lot of the missions are fetch quests which got old rather quickly. Other than that the story was really good and the humor is some of the best.

Tldr: Kate's diabolical femdom path + art heavily carry this game and it's worth playing just for that if nothing else.

As with all sandbox games, the biggest drawback is that there's a lot of clicking around and story drag. That said, if you use the console for stat edits and fast mode, the grind can be somewhat reduced. Issues around the sandbox are certainly an annoyance, but it's also not as bad as some other reviews make it seem. You can mostly just find your flow to quickly grind through it if you understand the program. I would however appreciate making some of the quests optional, like the beaver thing.

There are however 2 extemely great redeeming factors.

First one is of course the art. I don't have a single bad thing to say about that. It is just great. Body proportions, diverse looking characters, very fun style. Just awesome.

The second one is Kate's subplot.

Arguably one of the best femdom scenes and extremely mean girl characters in any game. Writing and drawing her has been an absolute masterpiece and everytime she has screen time, the game instantly goes from pretty mid to 100/100. Even if it's her with the other girls, she elevates their story lines from boring to fun.

Frankly I play it just for her stuff. If the game was slightly more streamlined and had a lot more Kate's content in it, it would be one of the best ones out there. Her storyline just carries the game like a bulldozer. While (almost) all other characters kinda get blurred into the background.

I hope the devs never mellow out her femdom path. It's special precisely because she's so diabolical and leaning more into that archetype always catapults the game into greatness.

I give 4 stars because I feel like her story has been sidelined lately and for reasons stated above that makes the whole game a bit less fun.

I'll definitely jump to support the game and revisit this when she has dedicated updates but I'll basically ignore it when not and wait.

The protagonist (nameable) is a regretful loser that timeslips back to his past self in highschool. There's also some lowkey conspiracy elements that something else is going on behind the scenes in his time traveling.

I'd say the art was the best thing about the game, but the gameplay was rather tedious.

The quest system doesn't really indicate any particular order beyond indicating when things are blocked by other routes so you may be in the middle of one when the options indicate alternatives if you should you have done other quests first. I suppose this could contribute to replayability, but the gameplay is also kind of annoying in that it's tons of fetch quests and clicking through an excessive number of items. There's a "Fast" mode that says it will automatically perform the default actions for you, but I didn't try that.

The other complaint I had was that the voice of the protagonist (not an audible one, but rather his narration) was incredibly cringy to me and the sexual content isn't signaled at all. Kinks just happen and the narrator will happily talk about how tasty licking assholes and feet is or whatever is happening. My big complaint in VNs is if the narrator starts talking about how hot/sexy things are, I get grossed out. YMMV.

TL;DR: Nice art, annoying clicking, gross descriptions.

This game has great art and probably some of the most unique game structure with how the choices you make build off each other. Some of the first choices you make has long reaching effects. That and the choices are more then do you want to bang this girl or not. (It still is to some extent but at least the choice has more impact then skip every sex scene with x character.

The girls are also reasonably different each other and let me just say the anal scene where Isabelle was clearly not enjoying it was perhaps one of the most unique scene I ever came across. While the are just your cookie cutter sex scenes there are also scenes like this which really help differentiate the game.

I normally can't get into the story of these porn games but I love this one. There's a lot of different choices you can choose that make the game very replayable. I can't wait for more to be released, love this game.
