Review of v0.1
If you like absurd bodily proportions then you already know of Epiclust and should certainly play Apocalypse. But I was pleased to find even this earliest version has a good bit more than that in store for the player.
First off, the renders are gorgeous. I find the proportions of Epiclust's models to be a bit much for me, but everything else about them is gold. They are very high quality with a lot of detail. I greatly enjoyed the numerous poses used for character art. They really add to the experience of being immersed in the conversations. Aside from the nurse (I can't stand bimbo lips) they all range from attractive to gorgeous. And be sure to check out Siri's character interface. I couldn't get enough of the walking animations for each of the girls. *drool*
The writing is better than I expected. I was frequently amused. The political satire fell a bit flat but it is so over-the-top that one can't really take it seriously. It does, however, provide a solid foundation for the game. On top of that foundation, it's pretty much an absurdly over-sexed- crap, you can't name other games in reviews here, think the opposite of Climb-In... Whatever. It feels like it in multiple ways, beyond the post-apocalyptic setting, and includes the more sophisticated conversation system. Anyways, where I found a good bit of humor was in the dialogue. Again, it's all over-the-top, but there are some solid chunks of humor and good writing in there. Furthermore, the English is good and I noticed perhaps one language mistake in my playthrough.
The MC fortunately looked at least a little less boyish than in Epiclust's previous offering, though not by as much as I'd like.
The gameplay is mostly placeholder so far, but it shows good promise. The GUI is much more polished than is typical of Ren'Py games, although there are still a few visual glitches, like character art popping out and in when interacting with objects in scenes. I ran into a couple of scripting mistakes as well, but such is to be expected in such an early version. Nevertheless, Apocalypse felt very professional.
All told, I'm quite excited about this one. Nice work, Epiclust!
