The next generation of standalone headset is supposed to come out this year. It's either going to be called the Meta Cambria, or it might just be the Quest Pro. Either way, it should have full colored passthrough, and may allow for plane recognition. This would allow for experiences where characters appear in your own living space. I think this will spawn new adult games in augmented reality. Is anyone else excited for these types of games?
(I'm currently working on something for the Quest 2, in anticipation of the Cambria. The passthrough is black and white, and not high res, but it's still cool having a Daz 3D character interacting with you in your room. )
