Hello there. I'm currently developing an adult game. Most of initial work is done, but i have an issue with choosing art style for my game.
Realistic or painted? Both have their pros and cons. Overall creating time is almost equal, although painted style requires more handwork.
I like both and it's hard to choose one. So I will appreciate greatly if you vote or give your feedback. Thank you in advance.
Here some characters of my game. Both painted and realistic styles. Note: These pictures are not actual screenshots from the game, just random stuff.

I typed so much but clicked back accidently. Ok no problem. So painted version is kinda feels detached from the surroundings and looks like sharp tone. But realistic is so smooth. Definitely realistic for me XD

Just a little bit correction. That is, maybe it will look more nice and perfect if you add the painted version of their eyes into the realistic version. Just make sure the eye part is little more brighter than it is in the realistic version.

Personally, I prefer realistic unless you're specifically going for more of a comic book feel. Something Unlimited is an example of a game where I really like the comic book art style (although I find that game seriously lacking in story and pacing).

I would suggest find a better AI (or play a bit with this one ) and make it painted. It will make the game unique and it will for sure be played a lot.

Painted is certainly something new and interesting. But I'd say match it to your games tone. Painted looks a little too colourful if you're going for a darker story.

I would say paint because I like 2d art
and it unique from other game
but in another way realistic is good for porn game taste of more people
anyway still if paint unique touching it's will more huge success
because people who adore art don't mind to pledge
and in the same way if your realistic stunning more than this it will stand out too
so in the end it's up to you more than us

I did few more test pictures today for comparison. They are pretty rough, but I got my answers. For a moment I considered to make both styles for the game, but i can't just use realistic pictures as base for painted. I need to light scene differently and use higher resolution for painted pictures in order to get decent result. In the end I chose realistic style, but with option to add painted too, if I find a way to simplify the process of their creation. Thanks for your feedback that helped a lot.
Here some test pictures if anyone's interested.

It would seem many people like realistic, and those who like painted like it because it adds a bit more character to the image, but that adding character or a vibe to an image is a powerful and great responsibility that can hurt or help the game. I say, painted looks better when it is not one style, one color all the time, but when there are variations, people with different color palettes to better reflect their personality, rooms with different color palettes to reflect the mood, etc.

If anyone's still there :) I would like to know your opinion about filter that I'm considering to use for pictures.
Here examples - unedited, edited in photoshop, edited with filter. Thank you in advance.

He could Paint in darker tones. and that could make it allot more eerie then a 3d render with a dark palette. Painting with with some abstract/obscure textures can make something highly disturbing.

I Guess make it painted as well, will give you more playroom or at least it's long term quicker for more playroom.
Unless you find the proper 3d assets for it. Or else you might have to make them from scratch.

Or do both for normal navigation use the renders but for certain Scenes and or Events go Painted.
