Hello everybody.

I am currently fiddling around with Ren'Py and I'm aiming to make a game similar to Witch Trainer Silver Mod.
I am more inclined in the direction of a Kill la Kill Trainer.
Does anyone have any tips on programs or methods to use for creating the characters/character sprites?

P.S. The writing in Python is kind of fun

Are you already an artist? or learning? If you want to make a tribute game to a specific anime then you need some art that is recognisably accurate to the source material, even if the medium (2d vd 3d vs anime vs western) is different.

Coding with Ren'py for a looped multi-choice game is only a little bit harder than a straight VN. You can do various things with python and mix it up with the script.

Doing a coherent UI is complex until you grok Renpy "screen" and "style" sublanguages.

Writing a fun game plot is a lot harder than you'd guess if you've never done it before.

But as with all these games, creating the artwork is the time-killer. So pickup that pencil my friend, or be prepared to drop a few thousand dollarydoos on an artist.
