"Arty Games"?

I'm working with a friend on a private project with a more 'arty'/'self-indulgent' feel.

We're looking for some reference on this, and I'm failing with the search. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! This is a "Pen and Paper" project, so format doesn't matter.

are you talking about 2d or 3d art?

and I am not sure I get your meaning of arty, but still:

Takamakuran games to me have most convincing 2D art, though I do not feel it tries to look artsy. But at least it uses colour, and light, physiognomy and poses are "realistic", the body type of the women fits with the type of sex fits with the art & animation fits with the overall game ...

and, like, if this isn't "artsy" enough, then I don't know.
