Is there any way to take assets from another game to make a new one? I want to start developing my own games but i want to start with a fan tribute of an abandoned game. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
You don't specify what kind of assets or what kind of game. I'll assume we're talking about images here. Most images are just that, an image. They contain no assets. The only thing they can give you is a visual clue to what assets were used.Is there any way to take assets from another game to make a new one? I was talking about the actual character models. Can you even extract those? You don't specify what kind of assets or what kind of game. I'll assume we're talking about images here. Let me also warn you that if the above information is useful to you, and the game is made in for example Daz3D, you've got a long journey ahead of you before you're making a game, let alone copy an existing game with its style etc.
You have to give more info.I was talking about the actual character models. Can you even extract those?
Well, for Unity, Unreal or Godot engines, if you know the format used to store them, what can perfectly differ from a game to another, even if they use the same engine, yes.I was talking about the actual character models. Can you even extract those?
Well the game i was going to try to do was abandoned almost 3 years ago and as far as i know the dev made no money off of it.Well, for Unity, Unreal or Godot engines, if you know the format used to store them, what can perfectly differ from a game to another, even if they use the same engine, yes.
If it's a RPG Maker game, yes, it's totally possible, the format is known and easy to deal with.
If it's a Ren'Py game, well... It depend if the game rely on sprites or full images. In the first case, yes it is possible and easy. In the second you'll have to use an image edition software to detour each character model in order to extract it of each render.
But there's another point to take into account, the legality of all this.
For Ren'Py, the issue is secondary, there's probably no devs that would sue you because you used their sprites or a part of the images they created.
For RPG Maker, the assets can be copyrighted by someone that would sue you. But most of the games in fact use free assets, so the risk is low.
For Unity, Unreal or Godot, it's something radically different. While there's no known case of Daz (by example) suing someone for the illegal use of assets for which they own the rights, it is perfectly known that they regularly control people using their assets for dynamic games, in order to ensure that they own the license to do so.
Corruption TimeYou have to give more info.
I'll help by asking the same question but louder this time:
What game?
Because the answers will be wildly different between Unity/Unreal/VAM/Renpy/RPGMV.
Well, there's two games named like that.Corruption Time
All you are going to get is the images that you have already seen. They are not posable assets, just plain images. This is a question that has been asked and answered time and again in that thread over the years.Corruption Time
