Let's be honest - why do we play these games? For me, any visual novel I download (indie ones ESPECIALLY) are a combination of three things:
1. How interesting does the synopsis make the story look like?
2. Does the writing quality look ok?
3. What's the quality of the art in the preview pictures?
Back in the Cabin fails the first two to begin with. The synopsis is barely an explanation and honestly didn't feel like it did the proper game justice (it tries to make it mysterious but honestly, it isn't, and it isn't that engaging either). None of the screenshots contain the writing style or any semblance of dialogue to at least give an expectation of grammar or punctuation.
For the third one, the renders shown in the preview are mostly the mom/"old friend". And sure, she looks good. Would be nice if we could have any interaction with her other than just stalking and voyeurism until chapter 3, though.
I've sunk several hours into this and the writing has failed to keep me engaged or to provide any plot of substance, I am not interested in any of the side stories, and the one model I could see in the preview pictures is the one that's getting the least action. This isn't to say the other models aren't bad, but design-wise, the one in the preview is much better, and again, you can't do anything.
A snail-paced game with bad presentation in the thread that further diverges and goes way, way astray from what you think it'd be or what you'd expect when actually in-game, and not in a good way.
I didn't like it at all.
