Bad Teacher is a visual novel developed by WindwardGames that was unfortunately abandoned at v0.2. The story follows a new teacher after his painful breakup, which unsettles his mind just as he begins his career at a school filled with quirky, distinctive girls. The game offers multiple romance paths, each with varied approaches, showcasing Windward’s promising material. However, sadly, the developer abandoned the project, and his patreon is now gone. Storywise, Bad Teacher rises above many visual novels, with each character standing out through unique personalities and physical models, requiring different strategies and mindsets from the protagonist in order to succeed in the relationship. That said, the developer may have overreached by including too many romantic options such as family members, and random older women, diluting focus from the main cast in favor of quantity over quality. As usual for visual novels, a tighter focus on fewer characters with deeper development and progressive scenes would have improved the experience. Windward knows how to use different camera angles to draw attention to key moments in dialogue, not just for adult scenes, an overlooked detail that elevates the game’s quality beyond the standard wide panel shots commonly seen. The pacing is well balanced, avoiding endless exposition without rewards or rushing into action without explanations. During the game you also see a simple romance and passion meter that ties progression to player choices, unlocking or not the next scene. With all the makings of an excellent visual novel, Bad Teacher’s abandonment is a wasted opportunity. Still, it’s worth exploring for its lessons and potential knowledge.
