It surprised me to see how quickly forgotten this gem is, and without a single rating, no less?

Putting aside the initial homosexual vibes this one gives from the art style alone, (and given who the artist is, this isn't surprising), Bastard Bonds is ironically one of the more interesting waifu/husbando simulators out there. The world setting is relatively fleshed out and the story is not half bad. Also, if you're put off by gay shit, do NOT write this game off because what I'm about to tell you can make it pretty straight. Not only can you recruit a long list of attractive monster girls, once you typically beat them to an inch of their life, (what? It's tradition!), you can create numerous human waifus, who then randomly appear across the world for eager recruitment.

And that brings us to the character creation... and it has decent depth for what it delivers on. You have a variety of personality and criminal background options that determine the dialogue they use. You can mix and match outfit pieces with a variety of body types between male and female humans... while there's twice as many choices for orc males, body type wise. And before you ask why there's no female orc option, it's unfortunate but that's down to the lore writing them off as a precious resource you won't encounter in game.

... you'll know why when you find the book on them. Personally, I found it creative.

Regardless, there's many monster waifus to choose from, so I can dig it. From slime girls to naked witches on broomsticks. Then there's the harpies, snek girls, banshees, oni, jorogumo, etc. Nevermind you can befriend shy dryads and you can even enslave nuns! Huzzah!

... did I mention you can create as many human waifus as you want?

Yet does it matter if you're a straight chick or playing as one? There are many options for hot husbandos so you won't be disappointed. You could say this is an equal-opportunity crime fighter simulator there. Want a vampire husbando? Check. Werewolves? Check. Centaur? Check. Minotaur? Check. A literal buffed demon that likes being naked without giving a damn what others think? Check!

That said, while you can almost recruit every enemy in the game, there are exceptions. And that's okay. The world's lore has a lot going for it and you know a lot of thought was involved. And then there's the combat, which is also surprisingly fleshed out despite looking simplistic at a glance. You'll know once you get further along and realise how many options there are and how customizable your characters can be. Different monsters also come with inherit skills that can make a huge difference for certain battles, adding variety.

The game's atmosphere is strong, too. Each level tells a story of their own even without dialogue, and they can get pretty dark.

What about the sexual content, though? There are some moments, sure, though they're sparse and avoidable. If you're only here for that you'll be disappointed but if you like to use your imagination anyway you won't be. Sometimes that's all you need if all else is good.

Overall? This is a solid game I can easily recommend and again I can't stress this enough that it's perfectly fine for us straight folk. Heck, you can even stop one dude from going gay in the story, if that helps. Poor lonely orcs need their hot waifus, too, damnit.

Don't forget, Sseth recommended this game! You don't want to disappoint the Merchants Guild, do you?
