Here is the way I fixed the brightness issue in a step by step process.
Step 1: Go to the game and right click on it (The thing you use to launch the game)
Step 2: Go to properties then look for compatibility
Step 3: Click on compatibility and click the box that says "Run this compatibility program for:"
Step 4: Use one of the windows vista service packs (Idk if one of them causes different issues, but they both seemed to fix the issue)
[P.s I played it from beginning to end on windows vista service pack 1 and it worked just fine]
