Hello !
(I hope you'll understand what I try to say, english is not my native language :giggle: )

(y) It's my turn to begin my own creation (y)

=> I'm searching for a SIMPLE way to create characters, and clothes for them.
Mostly the clothes ! ;)
It's just to begin as a creator.

I'm not an expert for the visual, I know I'll never be. I'm not a complete rookie with a pencil, but drawing with a computer...
=> My strengths (to create a game), I know it will never be the visual ! The telling, the mechanisms of the game, no problem. But the visual...

Maybe (probably) later, I'll learn how to create my own Daze3D characters !
But for now, it's not my priority : I don't want to (can't) use 95% of my time only for the visual...

I'm open minded, for the style :
- 2D or 3D
- realistic
- manga-ish
- even total toonish why not !

I tried Daz 3D... A lot to difficult to begin with !!
If there were a database of some usable characters and lots of outfits, ok then, I could start with that, learn how to change them, and one step after another, one day i would create my own.
But I didn't find such a database (or not for free).

So ! My questions are :
  1. Does anybody know a FREE (or cheap !) database for Daz3D, with few characters, and a lot of clothes ?
  2. Do you think Second Life could be a good option ? Not many postures, but lots of clothes. I think we can take some "pics" in the game, but don't know if it's easily usable...
  3. Do you know some other softwares (freeware if possible, or not to expensive), to EASILY create characters, and clothes ?
  4. Or, why not, do you have an opinion about pencil drawings, scanned, and then edited with paint ?
Thanx !

1. This has, among many other things, also free clothes.
3. Blender, it has a plugin to easily create characters (ManuelbastioniLAB).
4. Paint does not support transparency, I would suggest Gimp.

Do you know where I could get the ManuelbastioniLAB plugin, please ?
His website ( ) is off, even if all the links I find lead to it

(but as far as I see it, blender seems even more complicated than Daz3D :( )

It is supported by the community now, you can get the updated version here:

Using it is fairly simple, here is a tutorial video:

Blender allows you to also model hair and clothes, it may not look beginner friendly at first but if you do not give up and watch some tutorials, you will slowly get the hang of it, especially once you make a thing or two.
There is also a plugin for hair, too.

As far as clothes go, if you do not really like blender, there is Marvelous Designer but that is not free.

I was following the installation guide ( ), and this mesage appeared on Step 4.
Do you have an idea of why it happened (and how I coulrd resolve this) ?

The latest version requires Blender 2.8 I believe.
Marvellous Designer 6 is not free but it is the only software that can design clothes as far as I know (other than modelling them in blender or similar).
