Are most people actually mad at Episode 9 and Free Roams or is that just a running meme around here? I think some of the best stuff happens in Free Roams and Episode 9 is one of my favorite episodes because it's cool party first of all and second of all it's the first steps for a lot of relationships since Episode 8 makes you choose. Plus some deep plots start to develop at this episode. And also it gives the most endings for "end of the night" we've seen so far even in later episodes if I'm not mistaken? If people are worried Episode 12 will be like Episode 9, then I say - let's hope so! :giggle:

A lot of people do hate that stuff, but I love it personally. The Halloween party was fucking awesome, and while most people bemoan the existed of freeroams and minigames because they're time consuming and require you to do more than just click mindlessly, I've always felt they're part of what makes this game stand out so much; it's ambitious in almost every regard, even if the underlying writing isn't all that.

There are just over 3 months until March, so I highly doubt it will be around that time. The most realistic scenario, being optimistic, is that the next update will be released between April and June of next year. He already said that it reached 4,000 renders; and I think the next update should have around 6,000 renders, not to mention that it's a New Year's episode, and he always adds more things along the way, it could take even longer.

It's the replay effect. You want to check up on how specific choices affect later parts of the game and in between there is a whole lot of stuff that you know by heart. So ctrl gets a lot of use, but it doesn't work on free roams. It gets frustrating. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with them.

Before ep 11 was released I left a lot of runs at the start of the Bailey's TG free roam with the excuse that I didn't want to make separate saves for success and failure with the documents, but mainly because I didn't feel like going all the way to the end when the only thing that came after it was the cliffhanger.

Mostly I treat free roam frustration as a sign that I should take a break from BADIK and play something else. I'll still be curious about the details, but not enough. After I've had a break and feel like playing again I don't mind the free roams at all and don't even touch the ctrl key.

There are a lot of good scenes in ep9 but the free roams take away from the ep to me, it is starting to sound like 12 will be like 9

That is the general ‘problem’ with free roams. But Chapter 9 has taken this aspect to the extreme. We're actually talking about more free roams, that look like one huge, but all set in the same place, which creates a labyrinthine effect. Free roams are guided by a series of tasks that are not really related to the “story” or to what is happening, the reason for which is unclear, resulting in jumping from one room to another by clicking on anyone who is clickable.

But it's more a problem of appearance than substance.

When I first picked up playing S3, which might have been a few months after Ep 10 was released after realising S3 wasn't coming any time sooner, I did like Ep 9. Can't remember if I started with Sage DIK, Jill or even Bella, but at least I could see whatever DPC would do with them after the cliffhanger (specially Sage, obviously).

It was fine. I got jumpscared in the escape room, Jill looked dreamy with or without her banana or bee costume, we got properly introduced to Vinny... You name it. But after playing the same thing 5+ times I realised how short an episode it is. It became a chore even after skipping the text, and that's not even counting playing Others' path.

I do welcome the extra plots and all, but I do hope Ep 12 isn't like Ep 9. I can't in good faith say I'm mad at it, but meh...

Having an even bigger update may not excuse it, but it's a pretty compelling reason for it to take even longer.

As others have said, the problem with free roams isn't the first playthrough, but the tenth playthrough (in a relatively short period) when you've changed things back in Episode 3 that have significant effects in Episode 11, but don't visibly change anything for most of the scenes in between - you can easily skip through a lot of scenes, but free roams require you to put in the clicks yourself in order to get through them, making them a major speed bump in getting from the early-game change to the late-game consequence.

And with the increasing exclusiveness of characters on the Others branch, the amount of branching in the game is only increasing, pushing you toward an increasing amount of replaying to explore the major variations, leading to more and more time going through the same motions in the same free roams in order to get to the bits that do actually vary.

Lots of discussion about dev time as always. I don't really mind the time. To me it's more about what kind of content we will see in the new episode.

If I had one wish for it be either more scene with Mel (incredibly hot in last update and texting with her promises more "emotional" route with her.) or finally some larger progress on Quinn's path. Last episode gave us some depth about her character and her past, but it would be nice if we could finally break the barriers down that she still puts up between us. And scenes with her always feel kinda special.

Not mentioning Main LI's here as we do get scene with them anyway.
