Best Free Image Upscaler?

I'm looking for a good, free/cheap up-scaler for image files.

Here is what I've tried so far:

Maybe check out the trial version of Gigapixel AI. Images are saved with a watermark, but you can work around that with screenshots.

Cupscale worked really well for me in the past. It has many models, you can chain them and even interpolate them. Good enough results from single models and even better results if you want to invest some time tweaking advanced configurations.

You can download and run Waifu2x locally, doing this not only gives you more options, but lets you process entire folders at a time

downloading a version of waifu2x that you can run locally on windows (or maybe you can compile the thing yourself from github)
If you have an nvidia gpu waifu2x really plays well with cuda, you have lots more options bigger sizes and you can upscale a folder full of files at the time


I've used it for full CG sets of old stuff like the djiblir and taimanin games and the results are great

Any tips on upscaling irl porn Vids? I want to upscale this 360p video from way back in the day, but I only made a blurry mess when I tried to scale it up.

AI Upscaling is not magic. If you have a blurry 360p Video you can't get it to sharp 1080p. It will always look smudgy because the detail is just not there to reconstruct the image.

The start resolution isn't what matters, but the start quality and how well the source works with upscaling. I use Topaz Video Enhance AI, and I usually stick to x1.25 upscaling no matter the source. It's enough to give a noticably clearer picture without taking too much time to upscale. Plus, for bad/low resolution sources, a higher x leads to a more smoothed out, artificial look that I want to avoid.

I tried cupscale but it was useless for the old vids I tested it on.

Well you need some base-quality and can then enhance it. Its good for removing compression-artifacts and very good at making cartoons/anime sharper.

It just depends on your Source and the Model. There is no Allround Model that upscales every content super well, so its not so simple.

For those wondering, it's not waifu2x, that need a LUA interpreter and is designed for Linux ; so taht would probably need some correction of the code to works on Windows. It's the Windows port, wrote in another language and named waifu2x-caffe. So you'll not find it in waifu2x github page, but from
