Thanks Phenir that makes a lot more sense now. I always assumed the Orbs are some kind of Guts mechanic(survives at 1 hp and gains new health). So i was spamming multi-attacks viva the extra attacks from rings.
Turns out all i needed was solid attacks alongside dodge. I am a caveman....

I got to level 999 too early using the chaos dungeon is there a way to reset it?
Kinda yes. There is an NPC at the train station that can drain you levels and kill you. 5 each time. You gotta get the ticket from the duchess, use the train, go back to station after wards and talk to that NPC. Just turn off H scenes in the memory room and it should go fast. Still its 5 levels each time and belive me even on level 999 you are still weak as fuck.

Missing Sho (dlc 3 so you can't get her until after G end). Oyster does not have a covenant, she's just a sidequest. Jabberwock and Bandersnatch covenants don't have bad outcomes but you can't finish Vernai's quest if you want to keep Jabberwock's covenant. Technically Jub jub's covenant doesn't have a bad outcome, not handling her in time causes a bad outcome. You can get most of the covenants without triggering her but eh.

Chick does not have a covenant.
wait so i can make her a covenant also? i thought the only way to stop her from killing other covenants is by raping or imprisoning her..

I did not say that forming a covenant with jub jub stops her from causing other covenant npcs to die. I said that forming a covenant with her is not what causes that event. To be clear, forming a covenant with her does not stop other npcs from dying. They will still die if she is not imprisoned or killed by progress 10.

There's not a set path of progression, it's pretty much open world.
your right but aren't you forgetting an mad bird and jack the ripper
once you figure it out there really only a few ways to advance if
you wanna save as many npcs as possible

its better off to just explore the first time around
there is a chance to redo things anyway

Where can I upgrade rings I got?

I keep getting +3/+2 versions in the chaos dungeon, and I want Hornet Ring to be maxed out.

I'm not. Like you said it's better to just explore first time instead of go for a goal. And if something happens because of that, well that's just black souls.

I think i got halfway through the game before i quit. Battles just seem so unfair compared to the first game. Im legit lvl 400 and get one shot. Story is good but combat being so unfair just ruins it for me.

Huh i dont know about unfair. Lots o unique/special boss/mob mechanics sure. Usual RPG Trial and Error. But majority is just stat scale increasing depending on the area a. o. good use of the various items if you lack the skills/magic.
But i am more confused why you stopped/had that much trouble. Considering i spend at the early days a total of 4 times in the Chaos dungeon for like 2 hours max. Majority of the regular game was easy enough to manage after these trips.

Except for things like the deep sea stuff, that unique whale boss & Winterbell.

Even funnier is that he thinks dying is bad.
Dying is the core BlackSouls experience. :KEK:
