Yeah sure, one big streamer could prop it up, that's how fnaf which would've died if markplier didnt pick it up
Issue is though, if they're a mainstream streamer they'll have to play with the lewd content off, which might actually improve people's perceptions of the game if they remain ignorant of the fact it's a porn game

Gatekeeping itself is a dead practice and not possible anymore. Communitys nowdays rarely have any form of unity or discipline to pull trough. So regardless its a fancy term for "shit already happend & XYZ laments the fact that it happend or will happen".
The only thing that works nowdays is Figth Club rules with the only rule being "You dont talk about the fight club".
Thats usually how anything is "gatekeept". So unless you are invited to the fight club by others you wont hear-know a single thing about it. Unless you stumble upon it by accident.

Could be my lack of coffee talking but i believe UltraAyePutchDog was the trigger for F&H & subsequently CeeDeeHawk with his average 10k viewers on Twitch streaming it. Didnt get banned for it & played both games. So yeah if someone who is big enough to never fall streams it. Thats the critical mass moment for BS. Everything after that depends on how quick grifters and drifters latch onto their potential crusade & if it spills over to the devs real life.

its not really at all necessary to play, you could play I and II without it needed. But it just adds a tiny bit of context to Reds past
