Introduction

Guardians of Estheria, previously Tier-Wäch, is a monster catching series. It is focused on special creatures, known as "guardians", that have recently been subjected to a virus that transformed them into anthromorphs. The gameplay features the denizens of Estheria who have come out of a 20 year war only to be facing a new epidemic. A new generation of Handlers has emerged to help understand the changes forced upon the guardians and decide their fate.

The goal of GoE is to blend together elements of tactical isometric turn based games, monster battling/collecting games and immersive gameplay in a world filled with rich lore and deeply rooted stories that will be shaped by the player's choice. All related games will be based on Estheria and will follow the same timeline.

GoE has been in the pre-development stage since December 2018. Although a lot of time and work has been put into it, the game(s) have yet to reach it's development stage due to set backs with current and former team members and issues obtaining a dedicated programmer.

Positions Needed

Programmer

Preferably someone skilled with unity. However, we can be persuaded if another program if needed.

2/2.5D Sprite Master

Preferably in the isometric style.

Sound Specialist

BGM and other sound effects,.

Artist

Prefer someone who can draw in the semi-realistic anime style. Non-animated.

Payment

All roles currently considered Unpaid/Voluntary until an unspecified time after development has started and a revenue sharing has been established. At that point contracts, including tax forms, will be drafted. If and when available, compensation for work prior to that point will be implemented as well.

Expectations

Because this is currently considered voluntary work, we do not have any hard goals or deadlines. Work is to be done at the team's leisure but everyone is expected to provided monthly contribution so that the project continues moving.

We hope to enter the development stage by the end of the summer, sooner if the base engine can be finished before then. Once the engine is done and the game itself enters production, a revenue sharing platform will be created. At that point goals and deadlines will be set, within reason.

Project(s)

Guardians of Estheria

This will be an adventure roleplaying game that will follow an expansive story across six regions (main game, 1 expansion per region, plus a side expansion for guardian hunting and a final expansion to finish the story. GoE will be considered the "main" game, albeit not the first.

Guardians of Estheria: Atherian Torch

This installment is an isometric RPG which will help showcase Estheria and provide insight into other things going on in the world outside of the main game. This will be broken down into a prologue, 12 chapters of reasonable length, and an epilogue. It won't have as many of the guardians as the main game.

Guardians of Estheria: Breeders

A clone of the main game but much, much smaller. This will primarily be used to create and test systems and assets prior to installing them in the main game. However, it will still be it's own game with it's own story and goals. This will be done prior to, or done alongside, the main game.

Plan

We'll be starting with GoE: Atherian Torch, mainly to test the battle system and some other systems (such as basic breeding, combat, abilities, etc) and to cover more of the world than what we plan to do with the main game, which will focus on only one region with future expansions adding the other.

GoE:AT, to put it simply, is a Final Fantasy Tactics clone with Pokemon elements. In terms of it's development, that's as basic and straightforward as it gets. It will have a few bonus assets, like a photo gallery and breeding system and so on, but will otherwise feel familiar and similar to both parent games.

Additional Comments

The current Dark Impulses team has been together since 2014 when we started our initial project, PokeMorph. That project was shelved for legal reasons, leaving us to try one project and then another before focusing on Tier-Wäch, PokeMorph's spiritual successor. We started working on Tier-Wäch in 2018. Since then it's been a passion project for the team.

Even while working on PokeMorph, the team has ran into the same consistent problem: lacking a dedicated and skilled programmer. We have had a dozen (literally) programmers come and go on the team, with a third of them severely screwing us over while others mostly just wasted our time. We currently have two listed programmers on the team but real life has kept them busy and unable to contribute to the project.

Sadly, the passion for the project has been fading for all but myself which is why the team will likely be reduced in the near future and why this was posted.

We already have an established fan base and discord, many of which are waiting for our Patreon to pop back up as proof that we're back in full development mode. There's been a lot of support work and world building done for Estheria but in order for it to truly come to fruition, we need others who are not just passionate about the work but eager to see the project through and get paid for it.

If you have any questions or want more information, feel free to contact me on discord.
