Can AVN devs who used "ILLUSION" engine sell their games now?

Seems like only the ILLUSION brand is closing. Their parent company is still gonna be up and running...
Between that and the modded assets present in the Repacks, I'd say it's still a bad idea.

(Not that I know anything about it - There's a game being sold on Steam right now which seems to be made with Koikatsu)

Yea I remember stumbling on that game (forgot the name)..

Now that ILLUSION is removing its games entirely from all markets. I thought other DEV could sell now

It is not like the copyright goes away just because the company goes down. They can still sue and get stuff taken down if they wanted to.

Hope whoever has all the rights now (parent company or some shell company or another company if they sell the IP off to someone else) doesn't decide to do things differently than Illusion and start copyright striking everyone. I highly doubt that would happen but you never know. Would be a total disaster, some of the best games use Illusion. If anything I would be more cautious for a few months to see how things shake out. If we just never hear about illusion again and no one takes over their IP then devs can probably feel even safer than before.

Feels like they shoulda tried to utilize all the people using their games to make other games. Like release a developer focused "porn game art creator" that is just the character creator + studio with a bunch of improvements and QOL upgrades etc + an official license to use all assets. Then charge whatever a few hundred bucks for it but allow people who use it to officially use it for the game development and publish those games on steam, with an official license.

I know I'd pay a few hundred in a heartbeat if it meant you could put your game on steam with an official license and never have to worry even a little about copyright. Probably coulda carved out a niche for themselves with that, like RPG Maker and other game dev tools.

Gonna be sad we'll never have another Illusion game with updated visuals for these purposes anymore. I prefer the look of Illusion based games over DAZ actually. More cartoony, less uncanny valley. Less options sucks for everyone and means even more games will look the same years from now if more people have to use DAZ. AI still sucks ass right now, no consitency.

They haven't done it when the company was effectively living, and therefore had some income. I doubt they'll start doing it now that the right owner would have to cover the cost from his own pocket.
It would necessarily be an international lawsuit, what would be a long and expensive process, with no guaranty of success since the first question asked would be "why suing now that the company have been shut down, and not when it could have possibly saved it ?"

Not that the games are free, nor that you can do whatever you want with the studios, but it's even more unlikely that one will be sued now.
