Can people please machine translating games? I'd rather not have them translated at all.

I don't know who the hell enjoys these machine translated games. Even if it's somewhat edited MTL, it's still a horrible experience. I don't even care about the story in most games, but MTL is just so bad it kills the whole game for me.

I'd rather the game be untranslated than have an MTLtranslation.

At least then in a few years we MIGHT get a proper translation. But if it's MTLed already, most translators will think "why should I bother" and the game is stuck in that horrible state forever.

If only the OP's of games stated that it was machine translated, and then you could just ignore the game, move on to another thread, and avoid creating threads like this... What a world that would be, eh?

Hey, Anon1923.

Your first words: "I don't know" - describes a situation really well.

Translation is a problem, which should not be underestimated in term of investment. Game, I just developed, has appr. 40 000 words. Professional translator requests at least $ 2.000 - 3000 to translate from it my language and it will take 3 months. Proofreading is a different topic.

When you are independed developer, it's difficult to hire professionals.
When you do translation by yourself, then you have a result, which won't be accepted by community.

I assure you, mate, it's not like you wrote: "why should I bother", it's just lack of resources. To understand situation better, try to develop your own game and to translate it to foreign language: to german ot chinese.

Still, there are few options to solve this situation:

1. Supporting of developers you like with money. That will provide to developer more freedom and resourses.
2. Help to proofread the text, if you are English native speaker.

Creating such topics with sharing of strong feelings won't change the situation.

Many play porn games only because of the pervy pictures. In VNs you can simply click away the text, but in e.g. RPGs you have to have at least a vague understanding of what's going on. A MTL is good enough for that.

You don't have to force yourself to use English, it may be more realistic to express in your own language. For example Japanese games.
Extract text to clipboard and let players use translators themselves. Ren'Py is great.

Well...
  • If he want his game to be featured here, he have to ;
  • If he want his game to be noticed and featured in one of the many sites providing or talking about adult games, he have to ;
  • If he want to earn enough money to pay for a later translation, he have to ;
  • If he just want to one day earn enough to pay back what he had to spend, he have to ;
  • If he want to touch a public big enough for one to want to translate it in whatever language, he have to.

It's just a fact. If your game is not in English, even a broken one, you'll just not reach your public.
Japanese and Chinese are exceptions, because the locale market is big enough and there's sites dedicated to them. But it's just that, an exception. In most of the other languages (English excepted), if you search for "adult games" or "porn games", 99% of what you'll found will be clickbait sites promoting the same online sites ; many of them being just scams.

Games are being machine translated to inspire players to boycott the developers.

Developers constantly realize one major problem they have:
They have too much money.

So for this very reason, they go undercover in western countries, to prevent people from doing something very stupid: Giving them money.

If you have trouble understanding how exactly this works:

Imagine a Japanese Hentai game dev being a weapons manufacturer.

1. The undercover agent from the company goes to the west, visits various stores, and removes all ammo.
2. The customer goes into the store, buys a Japanese gun
3. The customer, thinking, damn thats one sexy gun, signs up in the military, goes to war, and gets shot because he got no ammo
4. The customer now hates the Japanese dev, and regrets having ever given them money, and will never be so stupid ever again.

In business that is called a Win-Win.
The Dev is happy over losing money, and the customer is happy over being enlightened.

MegaLOL.

* Obviously you din't know any foreign language.
* You have no idea how games business work.
* What are you focusing is 'your experience' not the other people experience include ppl who playing untranslated versions or making games.
* I'm supposing you don't pay for those MTL games and playing piracy versions.

MegaLOL again.

I just want a [MTL] prefix for thread titles, gets annoying after clicking the 10th [RPGM][Completed] Thread only to see MTL at the bottom of the post, and then the screenshots are the japanese ones do you can't even judge if the MTL is worth while downloading. Even though 99% of the time it's not.

What I don't get is how all those MTLs are fucking horrible
I've been using Textractor/Visual Novel Reader for ages and its amazing how good the MTL is. It's not perfect, by far, but you can understand the context and with a very basic Japanese knowledge, can even fix the errors by yourself.
