"Sorry for the late notice. My health is still bothering me and Corona also had his claws in the game. Therefore, I couldn't actively do anything in the last weeks. Therefore there'll be no update so soon.
I had a lot of time to think about it and will probably close my account here. Since I never did it for the money, I want to put my projects on a new footing and make future updates available for free and open. Whether I might switch to another platform like Subscribe is something I'm still thinking about.
At this point I want to give out a huge thank you to all supporters! It's great to see how much you liked my projects and thank you for all your feedback! Even if it sounds like goodbye, it shouldn't be meant that way! I will probably leave the account as long as I can and then inform you about the new changes."

I wouldn't say it's abandoned though, they're just thinking of closing their patreon and making the game completely free or moving to a different platform so they can freely work on the game without any overbearing restrictions. They're definitely planning on continuing development, though life circumstances are putting that on hold. Adding the On-Hold status is more appropriate.

The developers notes say there are a lot of side stories that are not finish and the game was put on hold.

This game was tagged complete once. Not sure what happened to get the tag removed. From what I understand, all the content is here, but there are a lot of bugs, and some are game breaking. When I tried it, I got about halfway through, I think? Some bug blocked me from doing a quest that progressed the story, so I dumped it.
Basically, I think it just needs a bunch of bugfixes to be playable.

The game was nearly complete, then the Dev reworked the entire game, mainly because of all the bugs the 1st time round, the 2nd time round, it had as many bugs mostly down to the actual game engine its self being crap.

I suggested to the Dev to learn to use Renpy as it is one of the most used game engines these days, he went decided to learn it.

With luck he comes back using Renpy, and has a new Renpy update for Candyman, and even for his other John Smith games, which again could have been great if not for the same game engine with the bugs used.

My plan was to complete the project in 2021, which I have done with this update. All the story that I had planned is now in the game. However, I have included many additional side storys during the creation, which are still unfinished. I may expand on those, but currently I'm going to pause on the Candyman project. This has to do with the fact that the game engine is completely outdated and has reached its limits (it was optimized for Win XP).

There is a lot of content but some if not all the side stories are not done and may never be.

Technically the main game is done, but there are lots of bugs. Some of them game breaking. You may get lucky, but in my 3 attempts to play I have yet to get an ending. Something always breaks my game.

you can search the thread for bugs, there are lots of them. This game is basically a cautionary tale for Devs who use custom game engines, then get in over their heads. Shame, cause the actual game content is pretty good.

You could say the same about 90% of the Devs on here. At least this one was complete-ish.
