VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Changeling Tale [v1.0.2.5] [Little Napoleon]

Truly a unique and amazing game. The art style is beautiful and the story is engaging. The characters are interesting and the trasformations are masterfully done. I would definitely recommend this game and if I could give it more stars I would.

The following review is based off my personal experience with playing this Game/Visual Novel... I try to be as brutally honest and detailed as I can, and these are my own opinions and thoughts, from one or more play throughs... The version this review is based on is v0.1.1 Alpha...

A very beautifully written visual novel with lots of high production value... Feels very much like a period piece, until the twist near the end, of course...

The visuals of the characters are all 2D hand drawn and done perfectly... The backdrops are all unique and creative... The camera movement, the music, the fades, everything about this visual novel feels professionally produced...

The script is flawless, as I didn't run into any spelling/grammar errors... Most of this visual novel feels like a period piece set in the highlands of what i think is Scotland... The plot revolves around a male protagonist, a former soldier during World War I (at least that is the feeling I get from the very beginning scenes)... He had seen a lot of hardships, and after receiving a letter about his grand fathers death, while on the front lines, he heads back to his homeland to help take care of his grand mother, and the family farm... He buys a mare and travels to his home town, along the way he meets several folks, including different women... I don't want to give away too much of the plot... Lets just say that he is happy to be home, is welcomed by everyone, and probably is a bit lonely...

For most of the current content, you get this overall feeling of longing to belong somewhere and he begins to feel that once he's returned to his home town, which feels like an old farming community town... Three of the women he runs into, you get choices for interaction with, and you find out later, they are sisters...

The writing in this visual novel is top notch, professional novel grade writing... Very detailed and creative, with a lot of character development and meaningful prose... Add in the calming music, and oh my god you feel like you are totally immersed in the character and feel totally invested in his good natured heart... Alas, then you get towards the end of the current content, and the protagonists life gets completely turned on its head... Finding out that nothing is what it seems in his home town... Many secrets held by the town members, and even his grand mother seems to know more then she's letting on...

As you can tell from the description picture, as well as the story description... This will be a furry/animal based visual novel/game... Not something I'm really into, as sex between creatures that look more animal then human is not my thing at all... I'm sure, based on the number of female characters introduced in this early content, there will most likely be many opportunities for different relationship paths...

I'm not 100% sure how the style of writing I've seen throughout most of this current content will transfer over all that well to the heavy sex content that the dev's description claims it will have... Mostly, because at first I felt like this was going to be more of a love/romance kind of story, which the writing style would be perfect for, but not sure after how bluntly the twist occurs... Especially when at least one of the sisters seems to genuinely care for the protagonist... I guess only time will tell... Hopefully it doesn't go overboard and ruin what I thought, up to that point, was some of the best serious story writing I've read in a long while... So not sure how that style will carry over into erotic furry/animal sex scenes, without sounding weird...

Overall, I was completely entranced and transfixed on this whole visual novel, up until the twist... I knew before hand it was gonna have some furry stuff in it, but still wanted to at least give it one go through out of curiosity, to see if it was going to have a good story... And I tell you, there is a lot of excellent writing in this one, but no sex at all in this content, which because of how well the authors wrote the tale, I didn't even care, it was so good... The whole novel could have gone on without sex at all and I still would have kept reading, I was so hooked...

Mixed with the visuals and audio (which I normally mute my speakers when playing most erotic/adult VN/Games, and glad I didn't on this one) I felt totally immersed, not expecting a twist like what happened... I expected the introduction of the furry stuff it to play out more gradually, and not so abruptly with almost uncaring pure malice from a few of the sisters (just because he was nice to them? wow, they must have all been burned by some real jerks)...

In any case, even though I thoroughly enjoyed my play through up until the twist, I will sadly and with a heavy heart not be revisiting this VN/game... And that is only because furry/animal sex is a bit much for my tastes... I do wish the author's the absolute best of luck with this one, and I'm sure there are folks who will absolutely love this niche VN/game... I hope to perhaps see more VN's (erotic or not) in the future by the same writers as this one, hopefully more in line with my tastes, because they have done a spectacular job so far on this one...
