Over a year late but Nekopara comes with a Chinese translation, and the creator Sayori was born in China. It's a kinetic novel though.

No offence. But genearlly speaking, the game made by chinese developer are of bloody low quality. The renders are super rigid. The characters are so unnatural, you can barely tell that they are human beings. Apart from these deficiencies, you usually need another code to play the whole game. That is very disgusting because you have to join some groups using some specific softwares, contact with the developer team and pay them a specific amount of money through some links. And these softwares and links are bloody mess.

What do you even know? How dare you spout such nonsense without thinking? What’s the environment for games in China, and what’s it like abroad? Why don’t you mention that? Do you really think China lacks talent in this field? You’re utterly laughable. How can you have the nerve to claim Chinese games are trash the moment you open your mouth? Let me tell you—it’s determined by the market reality. It’s not that Chinese game studios can’t make good games; they’re just focused on making money. Look at the entire history of game development in China—hasn’t it just been about milking profits over and over? Online games and mobile games are all about raking in cash. Who would bother with single-player titles? Have you even considered China’s 1.4 billion population? What kind of single-player game could possibly sustain that market? If you had the craftsmanship of the Germans or the dedication of CD Projekt Red, go ahead and try making a single-player game! I guarantee you’d lose money on every title! So it’s not that Chinese games in this genre are trash—it’s that no major players are even willing to try, because they’d lose their shirts if they did!

I know this is an old post from 2021, but even in 2025, I can’t help but reply to you again. I assume you’re still around, so you must have heard of Black Myth: Wukong by now, right? Looking back at your ignorant remarks back then, do you still believe China can’t make great games?

He never said Chinese can't make great games idiot, he said he hasn't seen one yet, which is true 3 years ago. Of course Chinese can make great games it just takes time for the industry to develop. For some reason financing for games in China seems to be a big problem, major studios don't get funded.

Why would a large population mean they would lose money on singleplayer games... it only makes it easier to make money, just like black myth wukong.

I see a few chinese games coming out soon but all the top ones seem to be action-rpgs which is very weird, wish there were more management, strategy, female-oriented games.

A large population only means market potential, but why do I say that too many people actually make it harder to earn money? Because the competition is fierce—beyond your wildest imagination! Unbelievably fierce! Chinese people seem to have a natural tendency for "involution." From schools to workplaces, from manufacturing to every other industry, intense competition is everywhere. With so many people and limited resources, if you don’t fight or "involution," it means you get nothing!

Coming back to gaming, I think you can probably understand what I mean. There are too many people, and game companies and studios are all frantically making online games—PC games, mobile games, all online! Why not single-player games? Because single-player games are far less profitable than online games. On top of that, a few major gaming companies in China have almost monopolized the industry. Take the notorious Tencent Group, for example, which started by shamelessly copying others. It hardly ever creates its own games—whenever a game becomes popular in the market, Tencent brazenly copies or imitates it. Relying on its massive user base from QQ, it crushes small companies and studios outright.

What does a huge population matter when faced with such a ruthless company? China has no laws to punish this kind of behavior... So, the current state of China’s gaming industry is that everyone makes online games, while very few work on single-player games. Black Myth: Wukong is just an exception, and its hype is massively overblown. Personally, I couldn’t care less about this game—I’ve played plenty of AAA titles, and it barely qualifies as one. What’s so special about it? The only reason it became so popular is China’s massive population. A huge number of Chinese people have never experienced AAA games before, so it blew up.

If some mediocre imitator tries to replicate Black Myth: Wukong’s success, they’ll almost certainly fail—unless they can make something even better, with truly groundbreaking gameplay.

That doesn't make any sense, there are literally no competition... no games. What you're saying is the opposite of reality.

No the reality is that China has a poorly working capital market where studios can't get funding. Have you heard of "China Hero"? It's funded BMW and all the other upcoming games like Winds etc. This is a Sony funding scheme to invest in Chinese games... because without a Japanese company funding it, there are no native Chinese venture or investment funds funding Chinese games, it's all foreigners. What a joke of a country.
