Chrono Ecstasy suffers from a lack of tutorials, a lack of information, a pretentious and irrelevant story, and worst of all—boring & arbitrarily grindy gameplay.
This game lacks tutorials for several important features, such as how to upgrade and unlock new memories (which can change gameplay up slightly), and existing tutorials have a large flaw of being very short, while being unable to be replayed.
I personally find the writing for this game to simply be bad. It's hard to explain with words, and I've forgotten most of it (after about an hour since playing) because it's a waste of memory. The story, moreover, is completely nothing: there are no stakes, no reasons to care about the characters, no meaningful plot progression that will affect the characters, no societal commentary or such, there is simply nothing that matters in this story.
This could be excused by the game being in a in-development state, but in my opinion there is little they can do to salvage this nothing story, especially when combined with the bad writing within.
Gameplay
The main gameplay loop is divided into "two" parts: A "campaign" mode which is similar to the game Reigns, and a "request" mode, which is just an incredibly simple minigame. The gameplay is not good. The choices you make in the campaign mode have unintuitive results, no actual consequences outside of that specific run, and are random: I found myself stuck at around 60% progress in the first stage, seeing perhaps 1 new event per run.
The gameplay rewards are minimal, where you can expect to grind repetitively for marginal progress, i.e. 1-2% increased rewards from the "request" mode.
To the developers:
- Please get rid of the completely unnecessary and useless gacha, and instead implement a meaningful progression system
- Consider reducing the amount of grinding, as it only wastes players' time, and since your gameplay is not engaging, they will stop playing the game
- Eliminate wasted time by removing the secondary currencies, and allow us to pay for memory upgrades and gacha pulls directly where we spend the secondary currencies. Unless there is a future use for the bird gems, we simply waste time by buying stasis watches in the shop, and then going to the gacha screen to redeem them.
