RPGM - Claire's Quest [v0.27.2] [Dystopian Project]

It's tedium with good art-style.
It's a buggy game stuck in development hell.

The game starts good, but once you have to start island hopping, it just falls apart and becomes rather tedious with all the endless backtracking.

The feature creep is a thing here, developer added heaps of features and questlines which are all left halfway done. Combine that with the bi-annual release cycle and it is evident that the game in all likelyhood isn't going to be finished. Note that this game has been in development for almost 7 years now.

Yes, tedium with good art-style. You should try it, once, but once you have to start island hopping you really ought to re-evaluate if you're having fun or not. It's not going to get any more fun unfortunately.

This game is really tricky to rate, honestly. On one hand, corruption is hot and theres TONS of content to explore. On the other hand, its really hard to navigate everything.

You play as a girl, and due to some stuff happening, you're forced to sail out onto the waters to 1 of 4 islands (which you can sale back and forth between, if you want). From there, each island has it's own theme and quests scattered around the island. The quests are good and you can see Claire get more depraved as it goes on. The problem is, well, the lack of structure. The game doesn't tell you what to do, and that in of itself is really difficult to work around. Oh, Grungus needs the heart of gibblygook? Well, where is that heart? I dunno. Talk to every NPC in town to find it. Rinse and repeat that for every quest and you see why this game is so polarizing between the 5 stars and the 1-2 stars.

In short, this is a game you update every 6-10 months just to unlock the gallery (Which the game allows you to unlock freely). The scenes are hot, but its way too confusing the manually try to unlock yourself. So just unlock the gallery, bust a nut, then move on.

Alright. So I loved this game way back before Overgrown started to be worked on. They then switched artists for this game, which was a huge deterrent for me. However, I recently decided to go back, and give this game a solid try, again. All I can say is WOW. This game is far more expansive then I ever realized. Don't get me wrong, I still think the Character Avatar Art(the pictures used to the left of the text at the bottom of the screen) is horrible for Claire and her mother. Which is odd cuz just about everyone else is fine or good enough, but Claire's is just really bizarre. She looks deformed or something in comparison to all the others. And her mother is far worse then her. As they are the first two introduced in the game, and is also the very first Art you see, it can be an immediate turn off for a lot of people. However, it's only that part of the art that suffers, all the rest ranges from pretty good to great. With many of the H-scene art being better then most games.

Anywho, The game itself is fantastic. It takes a bit of time to get into the game to see what it really has to offer. The first portion of the game come down to Do or Die situations, which will quickly lead to game overs. However, once you are past that, and you're free to roam the map, there is so much that this game has to offer. Like, you can join a brothel, or run your own. You can join a Convent and work for them doing missions across the lands. You can get any number of part/full time jobs through out several cities and towns in which you are almost always doing some thing different. You can buy a house. You can buy an apartment building. You can buy a ranch, and do breeding. You can hire breeders, and train them. You can have kids, and raise them in different houses which result in different lives that they end up living out, in which you can choose to either be apart of, or abandon. You can become a thief... You can become a gypsy.. You can join the hunters guild. Become a solider. Become a thug..
The list truly goes on and on. .
This game is the absolute, most, Role Playing Game, that is also a hentai game, that I have ever played in my life. Like, think Skyrim, but in RPGM with a crazy amount of adult content. On top of that, writing is actually good!

I only wished that the developer went full time with this game. Updates often take way too long to come out. The developer has literally finished other games while developing this one. But that most definitely does not take away from the quality of this game.

This is one of those games, where if you haven't played it, you are doing a disservice to yourself. At least if you're into H-Games.

this game is bad. the porn only consists of still pictures. like 2-3 per scene. boring. the art is not great, but not terrible either.

then the "gameplay" is a great scam. you will have lots of choices during your gameplay so lots of replayability. but why replay a gigaboring game?

this game is only that. choices. where to go and in which way to get abused/raped etc. which would be fine. it means it's a porn focused game.... yet it isn't since there is no animation and porn art is mediocre and writing is mediocre too... lots of text sometimes even sex scene text with a black screen... no art... the text is not overwhelmingly long as some "text based" games, but not short either. i dont get how is it possible to think for the dev that it's okay to for example describe multiple blowjob scenes with a black screen no art. either don't include that scene or make some effort.

so the game is a really low effort game. yes the story has multiple choices, but all are boring. if this was a NO erotic Steam game, actual rpg. it would be rated 1/5 becaus then it would be compared to other games where choices matter and compared to actual non-porn games, this is garbage.

of course, if you compare the branching and graphics to other low effort games, then it can shine a little bit... but imo the bad H-art makes me think they want to be treated as an actual game... and as an actual non-porn game, this is at best 2/5. probably would be less, but in a way we are still rating it compared to porn game standards and it does have some interesting scenarios even if graphics are bad, so imo 2/5 is justified.

because i cannot recommend this to anyone. if you want a quick fap, this won't be it. if you want a good story/interesting gameplay, then there are millions of those on steam without porn. if you want a mix of gameplay with some Hentai included... well then play a text-based game without graphics and you will have a better time.

Kinda well written H-scenes and pictures and events.
IMO the minor minus is it's still not finished and temporary drawdown in H-stuff when you travel to agriculture island with the captain.
I am roaming through dozens of all this entertaining games and Claire's Quest is in my top 3 for now. But you might have your own kinks)

Good game, but misleading description. Although it is set in a dark fanrasy setting, the story more similar to a lewd power fantasy. The main character claire is best treated as a "powerful slut" - she enjoys the ordeals that were forced upon her but also has the willpower to not lose sight of her goals. Many of the quest lines fits this narrative, and is where the writings are the best. Unfortunately this is probably not what was intended at the beginning of development, hence the much more grimmer and darker tone of the prologue that can feel very different from the rest of the game.

In my humble opinion, it's THE best RPGM maker game in this industry

CGs are very well made and even though multiple artist have participated, they all try to keep the same astheticts
The story is really good and the universe is explained, they are a lot of quests and secondary quests to get involved.
Multiple path to roleplay, a lot of scenes and the game isn't finished.
It's not grindy, you just walk and do quest and find the good stuff.

In overall, it's perfect.

One of the best female protagonist porn games out there. Art is pretty good. The prologue is really good with great tension and it opens in to big maps and whole worlds. While you do lose the tension that makes prologue so great, it feels necessary for the game to grow. Open world is well executed.
Devs are pretty consistent in updates and quality.
Protagonist feels like a blank slate and while Claire's hot, there's nothing to her after that. But you can excuse that with the character stat mechanic. Bugs do poke out once an entire playthroughs in non final versions, so save every half hour to be safe or play the final update of older version.
Another complaint is the lack of pacing for main plot but the game is still in development, so hoping to see more progress in newer updates.

This game is all over the place, once you try to become too much, you become the reason people don't like RPGM.
The maps are way too big and mostly meaningless, meaning you'll need to take copious notes in order to remeber hwre anything is.
The in-game guide is practically worthless and sometimes intentionally misleading. ( see mercenary quest ).
The game was well intentioned at some point but became one of those that gives RPGM a bad name

It kind of pains me to give this a score below 5 for a couple of reasons. The first is that this was one of the first of these kinds of games that I've ever played back when it first came out. The second is that this game has one of my all-time favorite concepts in these kinds of games - that being the 'Defiance' concept.

I know the point of these games is to scavenger hunt for pervy CGs but I've always liked games where you can take the protagonist, navigate the world on her own terms and get stronger, and beat the game with her morals secured, and then in the second playthrough do the degenerate run where I unlock everything. I wish more games had the Defiance system.

That being said, as many others have stated, this game falls off after the prologue. That alone wouldn't warrant a lower score from me, however, it's also extremely buggy as of the current version. The title screen says its the "complete version", which makes me not very hopeful about the game being ironed out completely.

I usually don't like to play RPGM games, purely because of the amount of grind you have to do to achieve something that might not even matter that much, but in this game I didn't feel the "grindyness" that much, even though I played almost all available content in 14 hours. There are lots of quests sure, and you have to go to X person then back to Y city but there are ways around it, firstly there's a sign in almost every place you go where you can basically fast travel, secondly if you are in Rathpike you can get mercenaries to help get you to Z place and thirdly you can use cheats to travel (although there are much less options).

Claire, I personally like her model, curvy enough for my liking and what I really like is that she isn't "afraid" of sex, what I mean is that there are lots of games where the protagonist is like: "oh my god, is that a cock/vagina? Im going to faint, help me" kind of dumb stuff. There are 4 attributes she has and you can avoid stuff based on that, so you can have your own playstyle if you don't like certain stuff in the game.

I feel like your choices definitely do matter, there are lots of quests where multiple stuff can happen based on your previous choices.

The story is great in my opinion, especially for an RPGM game. Plenty of things happen in the background that you don't see and things don't always go in your ways, which is perfectly fine if you want to have a good story.

But there are flaws in this game unfortunately, it feels like the Dev branches out too much, I completed 42 quests and I still have 14 that is active, but you have to wait for more updates to keep doing them. Obviously I don't know what the dev is still planning for future content but maybe it could be better if he focused on 1 or 2 questlines so you can actually finish some so you could feel some accomplishment.
Another one is that in my opinion there are very few CGs per H-scene, maybe that could get improved upon as well.

TL;DR: its a good game with a hot protagonist and a great story that could keep you thinking about whats gonna happen, maybe a bit grindy depends on how much you like RPGMs really. Lots of content but also lots of unfinished questlines.

Good art with many stories with different path. This game really got me addicted to it. If only Patreon have one-time donation, i would gladly donate to the publisher. I can't wait to see more updates! ^-^

This game has soooo much potential, but expanded its content far too broad and the developer is too lazy to finish it. For the parts that are finished, though... The art is fantastic and the events are written very well. Best map I've seen in an H-game

I have conflicting feelings on this one. I decided to give it a chance on a whim seeing as it had the lesbian tag and the description boasted about player choice. I will say most of the H content in this game ISN'T for me. It seems to have a heavy focus on rape. Even if you avoid it yourself it is still a consistent theme that shows up throughout the game. Which is regrettable. But the game is well made enough that I still enjoyed it and even found 4 lesbian scenes to boot. If any fellow lesbians feel like giving this game a shot. Take the difficult path at the beginning, two of them seem locked behind that path. And I imagine those would be continued in future updates. And of course save often, you never know when you might make a choice that drops you in a situation you'd rather avoid. Stella, Charolette, Sally, and Aiyana are the lesbian options I found. Asluag is clearly also a lesbian but no scenes really as of yet other than a kabedon scene that was admittedly pretty cute. [v0.24.2]

Wonderful RPG game. The different lewd situations Claire gets (forced) into are very well made. If you're in the mood for a sexy adventure, than this is definitely worth a try. You have different approaches and stats to build in the game so it even has high replay ability.
A false note worth mentioning though: there are still bugs in the game, due to the fact that the game is still in development. So save often.
The dev has already successfully completed a game prior to this one, so I'm confident we'll see this one reaching completion as well.

Amazing game with a deep story and tons of different scenes. A lot of different kinks and semi-animated scenes to unlock. The only drawback is the lack of real RPG combat or action. It's basically a point and click adventure transferred to RPGM. Great for what it is though.

This is one of the best rpg porn games out there, the amount of content is impressive, the art is correct, the story is good. The sex content is very kinky and diverse, even too extreme for me at times.

Played the last 4 patches of it and it is truly amazing. The artwork and story are well balanced and things do get pretty interesting as you progress. One of the best out there IMO and you can find it on steam early access too. Can't wait for more from the developer. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

New rating, because I want to be fair. The game is good. Just because it's not my thing anymore, doesn't mean it's bad. If I were an old subscriber, I would be pretty mad that a lot changed to seemingly conform to safe standards and patreon guidelines. Old review is below, but the game is at least a 4/5. Maybe even 5/5 especially for an rpgm game. I just wish they had a darker version on their subscribe star or something. Minor gripe, but it could also use some more depth to their combat/exploration like their other game overgrown genesis.

There used to be a lot of non-con content - something that, you know, made it feel dystopian. Unfortunately patreon guidelines seem to be ruining this one. Many forced scenes have gone the aphrodesiac induced, brainless cum-addicted slut route to make it seem consensual. There is still plenty of content, but all of it seems to basically be hollowing out. If you want great games in what used to be the same vein as this, check out anything from touhou marupon, or LonaRPG. Dystopian project's completed game overgrown genesis is also pretty decent, as it was done before patreon got to it.

Beautiful animations and I love that there's more to do here compared to Overgrown which I love BTW. It has a ton of improvements and I can't wait to see more. I am excited that the world is larger and has more options.
