Ren'Py - College Craze [v0.7] [Pretty Ink]

I feel for this developer. It's clear a lot of effort has gone into this game and it's competent in nearly every area... but it has also been comprehensively outclassed by the games of Eva Kiss.

The artwork, characters and branching plotlines lack the nuance and sophistication of GGGB/ORS.

It's still a fun game, especially if you're looking for another 2D female protagonist game set in college. Just don't expect it to be anywhere near as good as the aforementioned titles.

On the plus side, there are loads of characters to interact with and there's some basic character customization. There is also some clever game design. For example, if you don't spend any time studying, the game won't let you select certain answers in class, with the choice missing from the available list.

College Craze is one of the best College themed AVNs with really decent content, progression and character development. There are lots of secrets and while the plot is melodramatic, it's not a constant drama fest. Instead, character arcs are laid out carefully and with love for detail. Sometimes I feel that individual characters don't get enough content compared to the beginning, but that might be a choice related thing.

The 2D art is decent and definitely good enough to tell a convincing story. There are some glaring discrepancies between the character profile pictures and "in motion" scenes where you feel like you are looking at a different person. But anyone who draws knows it's not easy to get that right. On the plus side, this VN has an actual character creator, can you believe it? It's not a big one but still a really nice touch. Also, thanks for developing a game with a female lead that is not merely corruption based. That's exactly what I am looking for. That being said, it seems like you can play this as a corruption game if you want.

For me the lesbian love content is of more interest and I am happy to say that this game provides plenty of opportunity for your sapphic desires.

The music is decent but also fairly standard. The novel would benefit from some more original tracks, maybe at a later date. At least during crucial moments and dramatic turns.

I haven't played all the paths but it FEELS like there are several paths that might play quite differently. Which is a huge plus and difficult to pull off. Most developers shy away from excessive pathing, so kudos for taking on the challenge.

Overall, College Craze is really well done and among the top5 college AVNs that are currently being developed. It's made with a love for details and respect and care both for the MC and secondary characters. Some side characters are really tense to deal with and I mean that in a very good way. I'm also glad to see that this project has enough financial support, so we might actually see the end of it. Great!

Quite a few h-scenes, although they feel a bit empty for me, its mainly because the lack of content inside some of them, few pictures and not that much "sexual escalation" it feels basically straight to sex, but then again its a college game with "inexperienced" people.

Tl;dr: good game with high potential, has replayability, choices matter, good art, story and writing, downside (for me) are the sex scenes.

I played this game until chapter 6 (ver 0.6) and i have to say it's one of the best games of its genre, the art needs some getting used to, but as you play the game it gets better.
I loved the story and corruption of the protagonist, you feel that your choices have impact in the game, and events are interesting.

Very engaging. Just when I thought I can't find another game like GGGB. This has potential to outdo it. Let's see how the characters unfold. Request to dev: Please don't make a progression where the money scenes don't have any feeling. The meaning and story behind the scenes should go until the very end. Ofc nastier the better. Especially with clay and other old farts. There's potential for gang stuff as well.

Became a Pat supporter after it -- (love the Trish storyline so far).
And even tho i'am a sucka for fc lesbian games, i actually enjoyed the characters and routes in this game (the straight routes are really enjoyable so give it a try)!

This game is not the typical corruption/forced ( a fmc who actually can decide her own fate- a rarity in VN games) type of game !

At first look it seemed like a cheap copy of the games of EvaKiss, but since I love those I tried it out. Although the author clearly copied the style of EvaKiss (traced CGI, huge amount of meaningful choices, down-to-earth caracters and story), but to my surprise nothing else, the characters, the story is completely original and quite different from what we got in previous EvaKiss games. And the writing is absolutely on par, which is a lot to say.

I'll definitely follow closely this one!

Is it possible to be Stockholm-ed via a game? Because I swear....
Anyways, great game so far, played through multiple times and tried different paths and I can gladly say that I will watch this one closely!

I really liked this game. Clearly a lot of love has been put in there, the art is original, charming and mostly pretty. But the writing is the strong point, it's very immersive and descriptive. Also the choices feel very meaningful and you can tell when there's a big story branch coming based on your decision - but it's often something that will totally surprise you! That I totally love. The music is very good as well, and I have to mention the voice acting, great work.
I had just one playthrough but there's obviously tons of replay value here, and I'm going to see so many scenes with different outcomes, it'll be a lot of fun...

I don't really have any negative things to say, I believe more graphics will be implemented later as some minor characters are just silhouettes now. Thumbs up for the dev who's managed to create an original, interesting and fun game which keeps you guessing in a good way whether you just made a very bad decision...haha.

Enjoyed playing the game. Art and music is good enough for my liking. The voice acting was amazing. It sounds both creepy and erotic at the same time. It managed to convince the player of what MC was feeling while going through the situation.

The story is entertaining, but I feel the branches are convoluted. Takes a lot of time to go through the branches and it is especially difficult without a WT to follow. I would say that the story lacks a standard 'good guy' LI too. The story relies too much on MC wishing to improve the lives of those characters involved.

Overall, I'd consider this game to be a 8.5/10. Wish the dev all the best. I shall wait eagerly for the next version to drop.

Really great so far. Variety of characters, a story arc to follow and a decent variety of sexual encounters for the MC.

I am worried a bit the autor doesn't lose the plot with so many variations, but so far it's been great.

On par with EvaKiss' work, easily.

Love this game a lot really wished there were more female protag games similar to this one! I love the male characters, the scenes and the multiple routes you can take a lot. I constantly check the discord and subscribe star everyday just to see the progress towards the next update lol.

I don't know how I missed this game up to now (though I suspect the fact that the name was identical to a rather generic HTML game was partly at fault) but I'm glad I found it. It is very well-written, very hot when it gets to the hot scenes, and has enough branches that I've only found perhaps one-third of the scenes. The first time I played it, I spent about three hours on it without realizing the passage of time. It was that good.

The art is sometimes a bit off (occasionally even presenting physically impossible perspective) butt very serviceable and charming. Dialogue is very smooth and natural, and the story quite believable (if very compressed compared to reality, as it must be for a game).

It is mature enough that I don't feel uncomfortable sending the dev some money to help them continue.

Absolutely love the game! I remember scrolling through and finding this game. Never knew I'd be so invested, always checking the discord and patreon for updates! Great developer and fanbase, they are all very welcoming.

The Good
College Craze really surprised me. I went into this game looking for something with a character customization feature and while that aspect ended up lacking, I still really enjoyed the game.
With so many male protag games out there, finding a good fem protag game can sometimes feel impossible. Pretty Ink however seems like they might have something on their hands.
The current version, v0.3, has only a few sex scenes, but the story carried this game for me. (Note: I only pursued characters I was interested in so there are probably more scenes out there than what I saw in my playthrough. Your mileage may vary). I'd go as far as to say that this is one of the best games story wise that I've played in a long time.
I won't get into spoilers here but the plot really caught my attention. It's nothing ground breaking, but it's still something you can shut your mind off for a little while and fall into while you play, with a couple twists and turns in there too for good measure (twists that caught me by surprise). It's not a life changing story by any stretch but as far as porn games go, it's pretty good. I'm very curious to see where the story will go from here.

The Bad
First there's the lack of sex scenes that I already mentioned. Didn't bother me, but this part of the review is for the bad so I might as well repeat it. Idk if there's any room in the story for the devs to shove more sex scenes into so it's just going to be a matter of waiting for future updates to get more. If a lack of sex scenes is an issue for you, wait for future updates before starting this game.
Second the art style is a little weird. I could be wrong but it looks like many if not all the art from this game is traced (and some pieces are traced/colored better than others). It looks fine for the most part but some scenes look a bit off. For me the story was good enough that this wasn't too much of issue for me but still it stops this game from being even better than it could be.
Last is the character creator. Saying this game has "a customizable female protagonist" is technically true I guess but it feels like a stretch. What you really get is an option to change your character's race, hair style, and hair color. With the race options, you have three choices: white, black, or an in between color. To me the black skin option particularly doesn't look great (at least on the character creator itself). Choosing the black skin color with any of the hair choices just results in a character that looks a bit... off. None of the hair choices seem to work with the skin color imo at least. There seems to be an obvious focus on the white and between skin colors over this one which is par for the course as far as porn games go. If I were a dev on this game, I'd either remove the black skin option and leave the white + in between ones or I'd add an extra hair style (hint: the devs should do this second one). Something like a buzz cut could work, both as something that the other two races could also wear but also as something that would look good with the darker skin color (as a bonus, it also could pass as being a natural hair style [kinda] of which there are currently none in the game). That all being said though, idk what the art workflow on this game looks like so maybe both of those options are not practical.
In short, there is a character customizer but it's very limited and it has some options that don't look that great (limiting further and already limited aspect of this game).

In Conclusion:
Into story heavy fem protag games? Play it.
Just looking for a quick fap? Maybe skip this (for now at least).
Nothing mind blowing but above average. I'm not chomping at the bit waiting for the next update to drop but maybe I'll play it when it comes out (maybe I'll even update this review when it does!)

College Craze is a well written college life 2D VN with interesting and rather complex characters, the branching and routes in this game are plentiful and unique and I would recommend you to try and discover different routes, because you learn more about different characters and their possible motives. My recommended improvements to this game would be the art, because I think it is a bit rough around the edges especially in lewd scenes, and also the textbox for the dialogue is pretty distracting and covers up too much of the screen, overall this game has potential and I just hope that the development time is sped up a bit because 8 months is far too long to wait for one update.
