Ren'Py - Completed - Complex Society [v1.00.1b] [AbrokenA Productions]

Somewhat an interesting game. However, it has many characters varying many tastes which people would like! Wish the update comes out more often. But, regardless, still a great game casually to get dem spicy scenes.

0.15b version review
For such an early version, the game has quite a good amount of content. Kept me playing for a couple hours (took me about 4, I was a bit slow doing stuff lel).
The base premise is similar to quite a bit of these types of games, the MC (male) lives with a landlord and a housemate, however it's pulled off in a better way imo with the titular "Complex Society" group that I won't really get into now. Other than those 2 of course, there's a few other girls at the moment.

The character stories (still in development of course) are quite enjoyable so far, and the stories are quite well written, I personally can't wait to see more as the game is being worked on.

The sentences are nicely structured, the stories are interesting and thought out (although I must admit the past of one of them is a bit dark for my taste, they're still my fav character) and there's only a few minor grammar mistakes despite the dev not being a native English speaker.

I'm not usually a fan of 3dcg, but the renders in this game are pretty good, if possible some anti-aliasing to make the lines/edges a bit smoother would be nice, the only "bad" thing I can say is that some environments/backgrounds look a bit mushy/blurry in contrast to the characters, however it's not like this is the focus of the game so I don't mind it at all, it's very playable. The buttons you have to click to enter some areas are kinda meh (the school comes to mind) but seeing as there's actual doors that you click in certain places to change areas, it looks as if the dev is already working on it so this "con" probably won't exist in future updates

I can't say anything for the music myself because I turned it off and had some other stuff playing in the background.
The gameplay is standard, point and click, nothing innovative here and nothing wrong with it, it's a staple for Ren'Py stuff and I'm used it.
Performance is good, I don't know if the animations are like pre-rendered videos or if they're being actively rendered as you're playing but they are smooth as butter and look real nice.

Overall, it's a unique take on a popular trope for the games on this site, and being the dev's 1st game the job he's doing on it is really good. I'm not really some expert in-depth reviewer but I enjoyed the experience because of the stories of the characters, will be great to see the cliffhangers finished and all the future content to come.

TL;DR: For such an early version of the game it's pretty great so I'm giving it a 5/5, I trust future updates will make the game even better. As it is, it just needs a bit of polish, but frankly all I care about is seeing how the characters will pan out.

I liked the what the author is trying to do here. It had me riveted to my screen and I enjoyed the story. He had an interesting take with the complex society theme. Some people here do not like it but if you can just enjoy the story it works very well in my opinion.

Personally not a very big fan of enormous boobs but that seems to be the norm for a lot of these games.

Loved the start with the coin. Very original.

Overall a little rough but as the creator states it is his first attempt.

Complex Society [v0.15b]

Short version = Is a nice game, could be better.

Long version = Is a good game, but there is some things that at least for me is realy broken, but lets talk all.
*Music = The game have a nice music, i have seen a lot of the games that dont have any or keep the same one looping , is nice for a change a Vn have a good music.
*Characters = Well, here come some things that i dont like much, there is so far a good amount of characters, and every one is different in your own way, but there is ones that for me at least complete broken the game, but i will talk more at history, the Mc in himself is a great character, and for me, is the best one, lucile is a cute one (the white hair one) but her past is a little too dark, is not that bad, but i could have some changes.
*History = Well, here comes a really and for me the worst of the game, the Mc have the best of all, he is a nice guy with a damn good silver tongue.


Well, the history could have a good tweaks, the characters is nice, the sound is nice, the renders are good (have some good variety) never find a bug, and the best of all, the game still in develop, so many things could change, and the game could become even better, and not forget that is the first game of the dev.

I'm rating at 4 for encouragement and potential, but I have a couple strong detrimental issues.

Art's nice, and effort went into the presentation.

The writing needs polish. The sentence-to-sentence fluency is good, but the plotting comes across a bit weird. Without spoilers, there's a bit early on where it's possible to get a 4th Wall guilt trip lecture from the narrator, only to turn around and have the subject of the lecture turn into a major plot point. I take a very dim view on being kinkshamed by a porn game. Along this same vein, there's a scene that immediately brought to mind A Certain Well Known Internet Conspiracy Theorist smacking his desk shouting about chemicals in the tea that turned the protagonist into a Jerry Springer guest candidate. I felt the prologue leaned too heavily on the "it's my first game..." schtick; I get it I understand and I sympathize but this doesn't need to be here, it'd be better in the OP of the forum thread.

None of the porn content squicked me.

TLDR: a good first effort, trim the 4th wall bits and you're gold.

This was pretty decent game and had an interesting twist on the normal incest background plot. Not sure how the story narrative of the "complex society" would play out without the incest enabled. No patch or mod required - I have to say I like the self-contained ability to set relationships on some of these newer games versus the obligatory patch.

Artwork is pretty good, although less realistic than some renpy games. Story is well crafted but can get a bit wordy - especially during the whole complex society initiation.

The writing also suffers from the fact that the developer is not a native english speaker, but frankly he's good enough that the odd translation from time to time does not detract.

I like the fact that the grinding is minimal and if all else fails you can check your phone for what to do. That gives you piece of mind to wander around and do things at your pace and order without concern of messing up the story line or missing an important event.

Like the other reviewer I was torn between a 4 or 5 rating, but given that this the dev's 1st attempt and that he will certainly improve with time, I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt with a 5.

Looking forward to more story progression!

Review for V0.1

First of all I just want to say that the 5/5 that I'm giving this is closer to something like a 4.8 - 4.6. The game isn't perfect but I really enjoyed my time with it to the point where It feels slightly closer to a 5/5 than it does a 4/5. Seeing as this is the devs first game, he deserves the review bump and I know stupid people (like me) who give too much credit to vote scores might not look at this if it's rated below 4 stars on the site.

So a few highlights: The intro scenes with the coin were funny and the boring mechanics explanations were skippable (though I didn't skip them).

No need for a special patch to enjoy your time with your landlady and roommate. The story is written specifically to accommodate that hot landlady/roommate loving that so many people are into.

Story: 4.3/5 - I won't spoil too much here, but the titular "Complex Society" that is referenced in the story is an interesting take on the usual Incest formula. The scenes where it is introduced were a bit wordy, but they had my attention regardless because it's an interesting idea. I'm interested to see where things go with the gaming career and neighbor gardening plots as they seem to be unrelated to actually sexy-time stuff.

Outside of that, there are some of the usual tropes that come with Landladly/Roommate games, such as the Lady being overly affectionate with the MC and the roomie being distant and slightly combative at first. But the tropes were played straight and they never override the actual character's personality or go to unreasonable extremes.

Writing/grammar: 4.3/5 - The dev is not a native speaker, but at times it's easy to forget that because most of the writing is perfectly fine. There's not a lot of outright mistakes in the writing, but there are certain word choices that are a little unnatural. For example the dev often uses the word "Discuss" when a native speaker would probably use "Argue". Also the dev sometimes uses "his" when he should be using "her". Like "The landlady went to his room" when he should be saying "The Landlady went to her room". It's a really minor thing that didn't take me out of the story much but is worth pointing out.

Characters: 4.8/5 - The characters actually have personality in this game! The main character while still a horny guy who does some dumb typical MC stuff (Like night creeping), clearly cares about the girls in this story. He's maybe a bit too White Knight for some people's taste, but it's nice to see a guy who's not ALL about getting into panties as fast as possible. The girls in the game all have their own problems and insecurities, some of which are not yet fully explored. I'm particularly interested in the transfer student who gets introduced as her storyline left off on a bit of cliffhanger and I think it's going to go in an interesting direction. I like how in this story, just because the MC makes progress with a girl, it doesn't seem like everything will be smooth sailing. The girls have doubts and are in different situations in their lives that makes them not likely to immediately roll over and spread their legs for the MC.

Art: 4/5 - I'm usually not a fan of Koikatsu, but this has some of the better renders I've seen done with the engines. I think some of the boobs look a bit rediculous when they're in bras (Looking at you landlady) but other than that everything seems pretty good. There's not that issue where the nipples look painted on like they do in some of the games like this, so that's a plus for me.

Gameplay 4.5/5 - There's practically no grinding! It's great. The only times you do have to grind is when you make a bad choice during scenes. It's actually really weird when you do have to grind because by the time I got to a point where I needed to, it felt like there was literally no grinding in the game. That aside the only other complaint I have is the slightly annoying inconvenience of the date/time system requiring you to do certain things on the weekends, or specific days. It wasn't a huge problem as it's relatively fast to go through a day, and the vast majority of the quests did not require you to do things on a specific day. Also huge props to the dev for having a fully functional hint system in the first release. It tells you exactly where you need to go and what to do for each girl, and even keeps track of when lack of progress from one girl is blocking you from making progress with another.

Overall Enjoyment: 4.8/5 - I had a really good time playing this game. There was a lot of content for a v0.1 and I ended up staying awake until almost 6am playing this (Maybe 3-4 hours of gameplay for me). Though I am a slow reader and I was obviously tired... so that might be part of why it took so long. At first I thought the characters were generic throwaways, but I found myself growing attached to them the longer I played. Some of the moments in the story were even a little bit touching. I'm very much looking forward to future updates and will be a supporting this game on patreon if the dev ever links one.

- While our story well written its feels pretty boring/annoying after some parts, espacily our game latest updates stories was pretty boring... It doesn't give you the feeling for wanting to learn more about it... While im finding myself wanting learn more in first parts of game in last parts of game i found myself ''Oh god... Yeah yeah... We know... Can you explain faster? Aha...'' etc... Sadly our game lost that good flow with new stoires being to long and boring.
- Some character stories/developments feels pretty annoying/cliche/cringy.

Game have some good points to being amazing game but in the other hands have same bad points to. With all of this points I cant say this game is avarage and generaly playable/enjoyable Not one of best ones but its good.
