I would says it all boils down to the way the game is being developed. The team-lead is the one who decide what kind of content they want to offer to the audience. Most of the active writers have made clear not being interested on themes usually associated with corruption, therefore the audience won't get any of it.I mean i get that sense of attachment to their OC and all. But why put it out there as a product. Why not just keep it to themselves to begin with if those can't be shaped to suit the audience needs.
Why bring your favourite toys to the sandbox if you don't want to share? Should have brought the ones where you're less attached to it instead of showing off your favourite one. Might get told off to get out of the sandbox for being like that.
IMO, the Hive and the marefolk / centaur illustrate perfectly this situation: the hive is barebone if you decide to follow the corruption route, which reflects Skow' disinterest in corruption; same thing when it comes to dealing with the feud between the two tribes. No alternative path is proposed to the player.
Do not get me wrong, I have no issue with smut fiction. Not a single one. But COC2 is supposed to be a game where your choices will impact the world, not a novel database. Give to your player the chance to shape the world. Make them take an active role, not just being observers of what's happening.
Proposing multiple paths is an issue I faced when I started working on a game of my own. I realised that coming up with a decent plot for a game is quite different from writing a fiction that you will post on a novel site.
