Ren'Py - Covenant of Morn [v0.4] [395games]

I'm really surprised with the plot, story and the background of the characters. The design of characters is good, the animation is smooth, too bad it's still early and don't have enough of content in it. It's really good and i can't wait for the next update of the story. Need to know more about MC back stories.

You can really feel that that a great deal of care has been put into every single aspect of the game.
Every single visual und audio asset seems to be handcrafted and makes for a very unique and fresh experience, compared to other adult games that feel very rehashed.
The world, story and characters have depth to them and are intriguing and the sex scenes have build-up and tension with handcrafted and excellent animations that are accompanied by amazing audio effects. I usually mute moaning in sex scenes since in most games it takes me out of the experience due to it being repetitive and/or seeming out of place but this game really nails it. I can't wait for the next update.

Pros: decent writing. Somewhat interesting personalities for the women.
immersive cutscenes that are actually worth not skipping. They're well done, and other developers could learn from them.
Cons: everyone looks wierd.
Minigames are annoying.

I was surprised that I was slightly disappointed when it ended, not because I enjoyed it, but because I wasn't 100% ready to give up on it. Only like 99.8%.
I'm going to start with the main point: everyone looks WIERD. The protagonist is cold-corpse-blue, which makes sense at the start when he is literally waking up as a corpse, but is rather unnecessary everywhere else. I'm not sure what purpose it serves, in terms of making a compelling product. I think most people's suspension of disbelief, if it allows "the protagonist is a zombie," will allow "the protagonist is a zombie with human colored flesh." Or maybe it's just me. And he has tatoos on his penis. Why? Don't know.
Girl 1, Enna, is good looking. She has two big scars over her eyes, which are blind-cloudy-grey, but it doesn't render her ugly. Theoretically, I like human diversity, so that's ok, even if it doesn't make her as attractive as she might have been without whatever happened to her eyes. But something about her face just doesn't seem quite right. The contours or something are unhumanish, and from certain angles it moderately disrupts things for me. And her boobs are meh, as is her pussy. When a girl gets naked, I should be happy about it, and with her, I'm not.
Girl two, Moran, is a snake demon. With scales, fangs, superhuman deepthroating ability, and a very I'm-blanking-on-the-word-it's-not-quite-'volatile'-it's-more-playful-but-I'm-not-sure-what-to-call-it-but-I-think-there's-a-good-word-for-it-somewhere-in-English-'whimsical'-that's-it!-but-I'm-in-too-deep-to-go-back-and-insert-it personality. And she's mostly hot. The snake stuff doesn't do it for me (except the deepthroating, but humans can do that too), but her monsteryness doesn't ruin her as a LI. Still, I don't find her super attractive.
Girl three, Kataryzieinfeijsaa (I think I spelled that right) aka Kasia, really doesn't do it for me. When naked, her proportions seem awkward. She has TONS of stretch marks, (which normally don't bother me, but her skin makes it look almost like she once gave birth to a horse that was pregnant with an elephant), saggy boobs, and unerotic nipples. She's a miss for me, even with my weakness for redheads.
The writing is good, but there are problems, like not explaining whatever the fuck demons and demonic posession are. And things like why can't demons just rip the heads off of excorsists, given their strength.
The protagonist is kind of weak as a character. He's hard to relate to. Seems just blown across his path like a tumbleweed, without much personality or individuality or character or anything.
The women have personalities, and they aren't just cliches. Overall, that's good. At the same time, they're all kinda' annoying. Enna, despite (or perhaps because of it? That would be less annoying) her magical connection to the protagonist, pushes him away all the fucking time. It's like she wants a slow burn, with a guy she literally kissed back to life and had sex with before the first date. V0.4 and she won't even let you sleep in the same bed even though you fucked who does that??? And she's really annoying when she's being closed off, which is almost all the time. I get being closed off, but she's very anti-sweet about it. If that makes sense.
Moran is a demon, so she's deliberately irritating (or uses that as an excuse to be deliberately irritating) at times. Fine.
Kasia The minigames are not great. I've certainly seen worse, and they wouldn't be a deal-breaker on their own, but they're not very challenging, or rewarding, or skippable. The exploration minigames are worse. There's a place you have to explore that you get kicked out of if you stay too long, but you get kicked out way too quickly. It feels less like a challenge and more like a way to force you to spend several in-game-days on the exploration to make it seem longer.
In one minigame, I failed one because I reacted TOO quickly. On my laptop touchpad.
The sex scenes: it's too soon to give a definitive opinion here, and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to play future versions, but the sex scenes don't do it for me. The ones with Enna are kind of bland, and the ones with Moran are right at the border of consent. They were a little creepy at times, even though I was pretty confident she wanted it. And they wouldn't have been that great regardless.

Overall, it was almost entirely unrewarding for me, and at no point did I really want to keep playing. So I'm not going to.

Coming from their previous game - MIST, this one is a huge disappointment, sure it's technically still not finished (I think so, I don't see a complete tag, so I have to assume it's not finished), not only do the girls are less attractive, there are absolutely no bulges, no cock growth, creampies aren't animated, there are very few actual penetration animations in the current scene.

Big let down.

Renders are great, gameplay is atmospheric and rmeidns me of the best parts of MIST, though I REALLY wish dungeon/Veils had like 4 times the stamina/duration amount. Because getting kicked back and having to retrace steps kinda sucks. Even with rolling back to optimize my path I still had to cycle time and re-enter in excess of double-digits, and just getting back to continue every time got real boring real fast.

really enjoying it so far. it's on the slower side but that's good, at least for me. the character models look far better than on MIST. the story so far has been intriguing. the animations are also very well done, hopefully more are one the way. all the very best with this project

I bought the game on itch.io, but since I come here often I wanted to leave a review. I'll keep it short.

Masterpiece. Intriguing story. Mostly complex characters. Absolutely stunning renders and animations. Sensual sex scenes. Great, albeit spotty sound. Pace of the development is also consistent and relatively fast, considering the quality that's being delivered.

Finally gave this one a playthrough. Another great piece of work coming from the developer of MIST. Visually its a leap forward. Excellent sound design. Really looking forward to seeing more of this game. Minigames are skippable, sandbox seems pretty manageable so far.

Awesome, under appreciated game!

Game play: Yeah this is a game, not many of those on this site. Most of them are just shitty VN where you sit back watch, get blue balls, and then wait for the next update.

Cut scenes: Are gorgeous. Not sure how they got this level of detail but it's awesome.

Looking forward to purchasing the full game once it is out.

The game feels like a 3.5-4 but I can't really rate 3.5 so I'd have to go with a 3. First off, graphically it looks awesome, the animations are awesome, and its got good sound and music and "cutscenes". There are no issues in that department. However, the writing is tedious as hell and you don't get a choice in how your character is. He's just a huge doofus, written to be really aloof for some reason even though you're specifically brought back to be a champion and to slay her sister. A lot of the dialogue is also just very filler feeling, it's just dialogue to fill the time between scenes, nothing more nothing less. While I do really like seeing humans as the blobs due to your connection to the Morn, I wish there was more of an explanation and more lore or backround added besides just some mysterious "veil;" or whatever. Aside from the boring, tedious writing and mediocre MC, I have to say that grinding these dumb ass minigames is pointless as hell. What idiot thought it was a good idea to have you work in the shop to grind for date points to progress the relationship with these characters who you don't even get a choice in how you approach them? Not to mention some of these minigames are just completely dumb and unplayable, like fishing. Have you never fished before in your life? Why would you put a cursor speeding along a bar and having to click it at the perfect time as your fishing minigame? It has nothing to do with it. I could keep rambling on but overall, this game is a massive disappointment. There's a lot of good here but I feel like it's just being crushed by a large pile of garbage that detracts from the whole experience.

Review for Covenent of Morn v0.3.3

Overall: 4/5 - I played this game for the first time at version 0.3.3. There is a lot to like about this game, and I give it the credit it deserves for what it is trying to be. However, in my opinion, it's not erotic, it's just weird, and it would be better without explicit sex. I'm sure there are players that like it, but I'm bowing out.

Story: 4/5 - There's a good story here. Much more story than is needed for an adult game.

Writing: 5/5 - The writing is great, but to be honest, it's over-the-top and wasted on this type of game.

Renders: 4/5 - Most renders are really good. However, normal people are depicted as red doll-like forms with no face, no hands, and no feet. What the actual fuck? The excuse given in the story about why they are seen that way seems like a cheap excuse for the dev to not use/create models of real people for all of the scenes.

Animations: 4/5 - Animations are good, and they are used more frequently than most games, and not just in lewd scenes.

Sound: 3.5/5 - The sounds are all fairly quiet even with the volume turned up. The music is kind of generic, but at least it's not super loud or super annoying, same for the sound effects, and that makes the sound above average.

Gameplay: 4/5 - The sandbox UI is very well done and new features are introduced slowly, which helps with any learning curve a player might have. The store minigame is boring and is a rip-off from other games. There are several choices that can lead to a very early game-over. Not sure why they even exist other than to taunt players.

Content: 4/5 - There's a lot of story content and a some lewd content. The lewd content is just too weird to be erotic. The story doesn't say it, but the MC is basically a zombie. The first two lewd scenes are a zombie having sex with a blind witch and a zombie getting a blowjob from a demon with reptilian skin. Combine that with all of the "normal" people being doll-like with no face or hands or feet and I don't intend to stick around and see how the content gets "better". It's just not for me.

I played v 0.3.2

Riveting. The opening contains a very brief period of atmospheric tension, then the full force of 395games's storytelling comes hard and fast with engaging characters and rich world-building. Of course, the art is fantastic (as can be seen in the preview stills), and the animations do not disappoint. While light on gameplay, mostly focusing on story, there seem to be extended puzzle sections which are thoroughly engaging. I'm only a few hours in, but so far, I'm incredibly impressed.

After really enjoying Mist, I waited a few updates before finally starting this one because I wanted a decent chunk of content to sift through.

As with Mist, this does certain things in the top 5% of games on the site. The worldbuilding, character design, and UI are top notch. It's obvious that a lot of effort was put into this and it shows in the finished product. Animations are improved too.

No stock assets, no cookie cutter plot. Definitely worth a playthrough.

Story might have had the potential to be good, but it just gets ruined by an extremly cringy mindset of the MC and everyone else really, which takes focus away from what should matter....the story, but ive seen better dialogs in porn movies then in this one.

What ruins it for me is how MC has the mindset of a 12 year old pervert, hes just come back to life and all he thinks about is tits and wanting to fuck someone he just met, i mean gimme a break thats the first thoughts he has? come on... kill hes ass and bring back a normal dude instend of this perverted idiotic, its so damn cringy constantly having to read about how MCs dick twitches or how hes dick is straining against hes pants i mean its seriously awfull writting, even more so since it dosent fit with what the story is doing at that point....

MC then blindly accepts the offer from the witch, i mean fair enough she got him back to the living but still he should be more worried and not just have a single track mind of lust....first thing that pops into MCs mind seeing someone is "Shes very attractive" it feels a bit idiotic.

I always found it stupid when devs make MCs think like that since the player might hate how someone looks so those toughts should be left out of the game and let one who plays the game think for them selfs instend, it would make for a better game that way.

I had hoped for a more serious story or atleast an attempt to make one but when MC gets stabbed on the stage for execution surrounded by guards and the other witch and then Enna MCs witch i guess you can call her, starts talking to MC then undresses her self on top of MC, right in the middel of a fucking fight to save someone from being executed things just makes no sense what so ever....did the witch cast a spell to take them away? who knows nothing is explained so it all feels off.

To top that off it offers you the first choice in the game, accept becoming a murdere and a slave to the witch or reject her... if you reject her it leads to game-over.... i just hate fake choices why even put them in game....
So now your forced to accept her and have her forced on you in a sex scene, it dosent get more kinetic then this.
MC also trust the witch waaay to fast and way to easy, she refused to tell him stuff which she clearly tells him but yet MC trusts her and wants to fuck her some more, hes a slave to pussy and stays in lala land due to that.

The skin color of MC also feels stupid and kinda ruins sex scenes since you cant really put yourself in hes shoes when he looks like he does, so that a bit of a failure really, same goes for the world all people look like wierd blobs no faces nothing remotly human like which makes the game feel empty like using blank/black NPCs.

As for the renders they are pretty low quality and a bit grainy which dosent help the overall feel of the game, funny enough the animations are really good and well made.

The sandbox part is a bit idotic as they mostly are, it dosent give you any real freedom and your forced to follow a set questline making hole game fully kinetic and should be taged as such, you cant progress story without doing the questlines and since they will also lead to sex scenes everyone will be forced on you, so its a pure mindless fuckfest porngame nothing more.

To give you an exsamble, MC walks into a room and a girl jumps him and MC can for unknown reason mind contole her and forces her to give him a BJ, you as the player has 0 choices in anything as always.

This why i just cant take the story or the game seriously, it has to have choice to be any good, i never play kinetic novels for that reason and this one should have the kinetic tag to warn players that you have no choices.
Game also just ends out of nowhere, no matter if you have made all the progress you can in the game which is a bit idotic, i tried going for dates to start with and game stopped before i even started looking in the vail area thing.

I dident find a single girl cute or hot when it came to faces, the diversity in builds are pretty shitty as well, they are all in the smaller size not that i mind since thats just what i like but for the rest whos into the bigger tits theres nothing to come for, also theres only 2 girls at the moment as well.

Beginning with the intro of the game:
The game couldn't fool me by throwing heavy and fancy language and its beautifully crafted renders at me.
90% of the text is plain redudant/ fills the space with nothing important- reading through it got exhausting way too fast indeed.
Yet, the story is shallow and boring, because there is too little information (> 1000000 lines of text, but 2 lines of useful information, just as already mentioned) and this makes progress almost painful.

The render quality of both still pictures and animated scenes are top of the art, just as one can expect from 395games.
BUT this does not save the game from its core weakness, the plot and gameplay.

The "real" game:
The game gets better once the horrible intro is over and the actual story starts.
You will enter free roam, grind some, and unlock new scenes and story progression- just like back in MIST.

Unfortunately, the game itself is pretty boring. And why on earth did the dev had to put the "sex energy" mechanic into the game? It does make some sense in connection with the MC and his dependency on his lady, but it's just annoying and not understandable that ignoring to refill the energy bar by having ANY kind of intimate action (kissing, petting etc.) will let the MC die - Game Over. Yep, that's right. Once the fill meter reaches zero, the game ends and you will have to load an earlier save.

And while the NPCs are somehow adorale, the interactions with them (grinding through the same actions again and again) feel annoying, too.

For v0.3:
Much like MIST, you can expect this game to sport the best graphics on F95, a simplified art style that actually works due to this dev being stupid good at all things graphical, and higher than average creativity.

Unfortunately, much like MIST, this game also comes with stilted writing and frivolous exposition. This means that sometimes you will be tempted to skip reading and click through a lot of stuff. It also makes it harder for character development and the relations between them to shine.

With that said, the visuals do make this game a cut above, and I would recommend it on that merit alone as an exercise to see just how far top tier graphics can lift a game.

"Mist" wasn't as beautiful, but characters were more lively, as was plot.

This dev puts out some of the highest quality renpy-based games I've ever seen.
This review is for v0.3, so it's a bit premature, but I'm comfortable writing it regardless.

This game is smooth. It runs well, the UI is clean and polished; this is not a cookie cutter renpy UI.
The environments/backgrounds look great. The story, so far, is great (and also right up my alley so that's my bias).

My only complaint at this point is that there are some scenes where the characters look like they're made of play-doh...
Aside from that, it's very linear and not wearing the sandbox tag well, but it sounds like that will change as the game sees further development.

I can't knock a star off for the play-doh scenes because I'm just a man, and the moment I unwrapped Moran's delicious puffy nips, there was only one way this could go.

I waited for this game to have a couple updates before picking it up and im glad to see the quality is easily up to par with MIST and has potential to be even better. Super excited for the direction this game goes with its story with so many questions and intrigue right off the start. Also I absolutely love the 2 characters so far and their dynamic with the MC, super excited to see how these relationships establish and build over time especially with how little they seem to like him.

Mc's zombie purple skin is ruining every sex scene lol. I don't know why dev had to add shitty sandbox mechanics. I am getting tired of mc's naivety and simping. From the trailer I thought the mc was some badass ancient warrior as hiis tomb was hidden. Only saving grace are good renders.
