An idea I had is that, after her first sex scene, Katie could propose an exclusive relationship to the MC. Nothing changes if he refuses but if he accepts then either the MC would lose the ability to sleep around or Katie would end the exclusivity if the MC does sleep around, whichever StickyIcky finds best or easier to implement. And of course Katie would not sleep around either. This likely needs some refinement but something like this should be acceptable to both parties, right?
Yea, that's a less of a problematic suggestion. Still it will still come down to how well any suggestion is with the game theme. Maybe that was the problem with your prior suggestion. All the players of a game, especially after it's well into development, are there for those particular themes. The further from that theme any suggestion is, the more blowback there will be with the current players. With the usual response, if you want 'X', play a game with 'X' themes. As in if you want that, play a dating sim.
Because now, even though it's not replacing content people want, it's time being used for something most people aren't there for if it's against the general theme. So in this case, with a game where it's balls to the wall sex, and pretty lewd sex at that, a monogamist relationship doesn't really match.
Because it's a number games. Content takes the same amount of time. So if you're comparing content 'A' written for 99% of the player base, VS content 'B' written for 1%, that 1% is still view as getting special treatment. And we so far have potentially 2 that want more of a monogamist dating relationship. If something like that happens, it's usually because they paid $50 and became a super level Patreon heh.
The more minor content split of dom/sub katie relationship might have a more even 50/50 split as it was there from a start, hence that dual content is created. Also easier as a variable like that can just flavor their encounters. Having to remove encounters/scenes due to an exclusive relationship changes whole paths
