Assuming all things (quality, art, story) are equal, would you prefer a game with random/customizable NPCs or static NPCs? Also, when I say "random", I mean within a defined set, such if a NPC had random hair style or color, it might be a random choice between 5-7 different colors already existing within the image files.

Random/Customizable NPCs:
  • NPCs that are generated randomly (like using various image layers to change skin tones, body shapes, hair styles, colors, etc.).
  • The NPC specific story would be a bit more generic (and possibly overlap with other NPCs), or the NPCs could have random "personalities" which would be their stories.
  • I assume this would allow multiple play throughs with different NPCs and possibly allow NPCs visual appearance to be (somewhat) tailored to player's tastes (within possible reason)

Static NPCs:
  • NPCs with a specific (not customizable) appearance and specific (uniquely tailored) story.
  • This is how most games/novels work with specific characters and specific stories related to those characters.
  • This somewhat limits re-playability since the NPCs and story is always the same.
