Like every Side Scroller ??? Exemple in Eroico you just hit the enemy then back off then rince and repeat .
I haven't played Eroico so I can't speak for that game. But to give some examples from the other games:
Sinisistar 2: Overall super simple gameplay, but the different abilities and skills still make up for it. E.g. you have arrows that penetrate enemies, arrows that explode. You can try to lure enemies together before then exploding them. Many enemies also stay in place and attack you with ranged attacks, which gives you choices about which enemy to prioritize killing first. The difference in enemy attacks also makes you position differently and approach different enemies differently.
The game is still very easy, but there is still variety and choice about how you approach each situation. Each boss also feels very different, unlike in this game where they feel like just another damage sponge. The level design in Sinisistar 2 is also much more creative. Even the individual dungeon designs, e.g. the demihuman dungeon where there are several planned traps, a prison that you would have to either search for or get caught to find. More over, most rooms actually create unique gameplay encounters with how the obstacles and enemies have been spaced, unlike Cyan Brain where 90% of it are just long straight hallways with enemeis copy pasted at an even distance between each other.
In Skyrim the melee combat is the same if not more boring . Hit the enemy , back off , use potion , rince and repeat .
Ok this statement cannot be in good faith. Skyrim's gameplay is really lacking in depth, but it still offers plenty of ways to approach different situations. Yes you can go unga bunga and just trade hits and chug potions till either your enemy dies or you run out of potions, but that is just one of many ways to play. You can sneak past enemies and go straight to the boss without being detected. Or you sneak up on enemies from behind and slice their throats. Or you can pick them off with a bow from stealth. Or you can lure them to a cliff and use your thu'um to shout them off the edge. Or you can use magic to place rune traps and then lure your enemies into them. Or you can summon creatues to help you in battle while you eat popcorn as you watch. Or you can kill one person, then use necromancy to turn them into your undead slave and make them kill their friends, and then turn their friends into undead slaves as well. Or you can stay in town, level up your smithing, then walk into the dungeon with gear much stronger than what would normally be attainable at this level and watch as the enemy wails helplessly at your armor. I could go on and on....
With that said, I still think Skyrim's combat could be a lot better. This is one of the major things I really hope they improve upon for the Elder Scrolls VI. But Skyrim's combat and level design is still infinitely more engaging and interesting than Cyan Brain's.
Even ,how would you change that ? You character is a Cyborg with no super characteristic .Cyan doesn't have super legs where you can jump around. Cyan only use guns and melee since she's a soldier .
How would you " Improve" the gameplay?
Just adding something like a grenade would be a good start. Attempting to group enemies and then use a grenade to take them out is more effective, but also harder and riskier than just picking them off one at a time with a gun. It would add gameplay variety and give the player more choice on how to approach enemies. It also adds another layer of resource management, e.g.: do I use a grenade to get past the enemies on this floor, or should I try to save as many grenades as I can for the boss?
Adding a duck mechanic is another simple way to create another way to dodge attacks. Though of course, you would need to also create enemy attacks that allows the player to utilize the duck mechanic, which brings me to the next point.
Add enemies that do more than just "run at player and attack". Specifically enemies that have attacks that can be dodged by smart positioning. E.g. by utilizing the duck mechanic, or by jumping over their attacks, or by simply carefully watching the enemy's attacks and then position yourself accordingly. Almost every single attack in this game can only be dodged by either not being within range or by timing the dodge button. Adding multiple ways to dodge attacks once again creates more opportunities for the player and also makes enemies feel more unique aside from just their look.....
Which brings me to the next point: The enemy AI. As I said, almost every single enemy just runs at you and attacks. This is so incredibly boring. Adding a few enemies with smarter, or at least different AI's, would once again make combat encounters feel more unique and engaging. In many other action games, smarter enemies carefully watch the player and then react to what the player does. E.g. they may slowly approach the player and wait a bit before attacking. They may attempt to coordinate their attacks if they are in a group. Some may even react to the player's attacks, e.g. dash away and counterattack when the player engages them. Hell, just having some enemeis that would stand at a fixed place and shoot at the player would already double the variety in enemy AIs for this game.
But hell, all of these require extra work and effort. There is one super easy thing the dev could have done that would required LESS work. Which is.... to just not have so many long hallways with enemies copy pasted with the exact same interval between each other???? No but seriously. Making a game with simple combat is fine, it can still be enjoyable. But a dev must recognize that the combat very quickly becomes stale and repetitive and thus ensure the content does not drag on for too long before the player becomes bored. If you really want create a long game, make sure that there is an actual reason your game is this long! If your game lacks the depth for it to be this long, then either shorten it or add more depth! Short games are much better than long games that overstay their welcome! If this game was shorter, I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4!
I didn't mean to write an entire essay about this topic, but I really could go on and on about the myriad of ways to improve the gameplay. There are so many more things than what I've mentioned here. If you're interested, I'd heavily recommend you try Night of Revenge or Sinistar 2. I'm sure you will enjoy those games if you enjoyed this game.
Though I do also want to answer this one last thing...
Cyan doesn't have super legs where you can jump around.
This is a sci-fi game. Just give her an enhanced body or whatever. There were plenty of enemies that had human looking bodies that did all kinds of ninja shit. The pursuit of realism, stuff like "she can't jump high we can't add that mechanc", have no place in video games. Making an engaging game always comes first. Of course, there could be other good reasons to not add mechanics like this. E.g. if the devs wanted to go for a more survival horror feel where the player feels vulnearable, then adding a high jump would go directly against that. But I don't think the devs thought that through at all. I don't think they've given any of the gameplay elements much thought.
