Cyanotype daydream is top tier VN, but it's held back by a couple of problems, that are preventing it from achieving masterpiece status. Even with that in mind, there is a particular case ("chapter") that I would score as the proverbial 11/10, and seems like a must read for any VN enthusiast.
Positive:
- Case 1 is amazing, one of the best things I have ever read in a VN.
- The 4 heroines are really good, likability and investment are very high.
- The OST is one of the best ever in a VN, and the voice acting is great too (guess how many people are voicing the 4 main heroines).
- The VN has some very nice art, and all the advantages of being "recent" (2020).
- Stories that interconnect, lots of interesting themes, and diversity (4 cases with different settings) if you are in the mood to think about "stuff".
Negative:
- The ending feels rushed , and leaves a "bad taste" in what would otherwise be a stellar experience (it's a 9 because of this). There are 4 cases in Cyanotype, and they vary significantly when it comes to narrative appeal. It's the same writer, but doesn't feel like a unified experience in terms of quality.
Score: Cyanotype Daydream is a 9/10, but it's not that far from "best ever tier". This a VN that can appeal to both your emotional, and intellectual sides, and does so in very balanced way, creating a great reading experience. The ending ruined it though, and that memory is not going away any time soon.
(This is not something you should read for the 18+ content, it's weak).
