You see, here's the thing. I share an opposite viewpoint to yours, although I completely respect how you feel. But let me try to change your mind just a little bit. In her context, D being a quote/unquote blank slate actually works. Remember, she's an 18 year old Daddy's Girl who had a super attack-helicopter mom and no worthy father figure for most of her life. (No...Brad doesn't count. Just...no.) Aside from a few creepy bois, life hasn't really hit her yet. And every time life tries to hit her, Her dad shields her. And even in her current form, her slate is not really blank. Thanks to the shenanigans of a few creepy motherfuckers, she has developed a sense of determination and strength to loom out for herself and her best interests, even if it means she has to fight, and goddamn... can she fight. And she will rearrange someone's face if it means defending those close to her. Aside from that, she gets anxious easily and has a slow-burn confidence, all of which are negated by the presence of her father. She is playful and still a bit emotionally juvenile, but then again, she's 18. Not to mention that her body, despite the level of "HOLY SHIT" it might be, is not a source of confidence for her either. Childhood body confidence issues have taken deep root inside her and are only suppressed when she is with her father. She's an awkward romantic, with not that many real-life/real-world experiences and a very, very loving father that protects her from anything that could leave character-developing scars on her heart and mind. Her father brings out the best in her and everyone else could pretty much go suck it for all she cares. She doesn't put herself out there for anyone else but her father, not only because that's all she knows, but also he's all she needs, self-proclaimed. Her personality slate might not be the most diverse, but there is quite a bit to like and a sense of subtlety that is just wonderful to me. That's just how I feel, though... Hope I explained it well and I'm open to questions or further explanations, maybe even a discussion...
