Daz Studio - Inherited characters?

Hello all!

I have a really noob question! :)
I see plenty of characters that are "for" another character that is derived from a base Genesis character.

For example, "FWSA Shiloh HD for Lilith 7 ". The title leads me to believe that Lilith 7 is needed, but the "Compatible Figures" listed is "Genesis 3 Female". And Lilith 7 is a Genesis 3 Female based model. So, when I see this, is the mentioned character required or just a suggestion? Will the character fit better if Lilith 7 (for example) is loaded first?

Thank you!

Mo.

It requires you to have the base model. So if you want Vanessa for The Girl 8, then you have to have The Girl 8.

Not a silly question at all. :)

Genesis x blah = the 3D meshes
character A = no new mesh, but the Genesis x blah mesh that has been reshaped (so you get a slider that lets you fade in the character shape only for the Genesis x blah character). May also include clothing, hair, and custom textures/assets/shader settings.
character B for character A = This is a new reshaping of the previous 'character A' and does not include the 'character A' shape nor any of its assets. It could be a custom slider that reshapes the character, or a silder that actually controls other sliders (such as the body diversity pack) which then shape the character.

In order to get character B, you need to open up a new Genisis x blah character, apply the character A shape, and then the character B shape. Often the character B shape will automatically apply the Character A shape if it can find it. If you do not have the character A shape, the character B shape will still apply, but it may look totally gross due to not having the base shape.

you can have the B shape without the A shape, some models that are close to the original shape don't distort too much, but some that do have a major change to the look of the base Gen x blah character will be highly distorted if they don't have all their assets working together.

Maybe it should be mentioned that there were (Generation G1, G2, G3 but G8 not) mostly different UV sets for the different base figures.
Means you can't use textures made for these UV sets without having the base figure. :)

Also good to know, thank you Smbt3D! I am starting to get a much clearer picture. It is very interesting how diverse character development can be. Some developers go all out and develop a new character in Zbrush while some develop just morphs or textures for existing assets.

Following up on my initial question, could some tell me if the following steps are correct?

Lets say I want to use Amatista HD for Ellithia 8.
Do I need to do ALL the following steps?

1. Load Genesis 8 Female
2. Load Ellithia 8
3. Load Ellithia 8 HD Add-On
4. Load Amatista HD for Ellithia 8

Is step # 3 crucial?

Thank you! :)

No no, just load Amatista HD. You're making it way too complicated. Haha.

Daz3D will do the other steps for you. The HD Add-On might not be automatic so I'd apply that for good measure.
