Hi,

Relatively new to this space in terms of trying to develop/create. I've put time in doing doing research over the past year or so and learning the differences between working in Daz and Blender and I'm somewhat comfortable but although still really inexperienced in both. I've done the donut like 2-3 years ago and played around with Blender to learn what it has to offer. In terms of being able to render/animate and create whatever, it's perfect.

Now I'd love to work in Blender for the extra ability that Daz does not offer such as for better support for animations but from what I can tell it takes a lot more effort to get something that looks good.

Should I just continue with Blender? I've discovered diffeomorphic and followed this tut but feels like there is a lot of information that I may need that's missing. Anyone experienced in using Blender as their main output or have tips for a simple workflow from daz to blender?

Or..should I just stick with Daz first?

As someone who has actual years into Daz, and recently got into Blender, either one is going to take a good while to get down. I consider level of work pretty high (so much for trying to sound humble.), and found Blender fairly hard to get into when I didn't have a lot of experience in Daz.

I think Daz is a good starting point. It makes lighting, framing, posing, etc. all fairly easy to learn and apply. Like I said, I tried Blender early on in my Daz journey, and I just couldn't grasp it. I spent a few years with Daz and recently came back to in the last year or so after I felt like I was hitting a wall with Daz, only to find it a lot easier. My best guess as to why roots in the fact that I wasn't learning a bunch of other things alongside a complicated software.

I'd recommend at least getting comfortable with the basics in Daz and knowing what you're doing before moving over to Blender. There's definitely some QoL features missing, like Smart Content or easy presets for clothes/etc. (though appending does the job well enough.)

videos, while a little bit dated, are probably a good introduction into the basics of Diffeo and Daz+Blender. AnimeNyan's stuff on PornHub is also fairly helpful. The NSFW Blender is also worth checking out, as that is where piece of gold came from.

Just as an aside, Daz animations are fine. They aren't great, but with enough work, you can get some good results. People give Daz a lot of rightful shit, but for being a software than never claimed to excel at animating (e.g. Maya/3DS), it does a pretty good job at making it easy.

Thank you for the detailed reply!

Using DAZ assets in Blender is a lot easier than it was even a couple of years ago, the fact that Diffeo can import shapekey drivers automatically is a huge time saver. Still, if you want good results you'll have to dig into how to adjust/setup materials in Blender, the shaders Diffeomorphic creates are a starting point at best. I don't know of a simple tutorial on how to do that, you can take apart files from Rigid or Nyl for example an deconstruct their shaders node for node, although that might be a bit overwhelming for a beginner.

Good composition and lighting are good (or bad) composition and lighting no matter what program you use.

At the end of the day it's about the porn you create, not the program you use.

Porn is all that matters, porn is all there is.
