Deathable shows a rather depressing world in which betrayal, failure and corruption are rampant. People try to get ahead and it seems many of them fail and get corrupted or otherwise entangled in criminality and abusive relationships. There is little hope if you aren't living in a functional family like the MC when the game starts.
And there seems to be a second, more fantastic world, but we only get a glimpse of it. It is supposed to be a major plot point but we aren't quite there yet in version 0.3.7.
Deathable contains ntr and corruption scenes, depending on your own behavior and events in the world that surrounds you. You can either remain a standup guy with a clear conscience or you can become part of this wickedness, you can intervene and help your friends out or leave them alone in their struggles. You can be a beacon of trust and friendship or someone nobody can rely on.
In any case, it seems this is the main duality and most choices impact your allegiance towards one extreme or the other. Which makes it a corruption game with both routes feeling legitimate and enjoyable.
The way decisions are made and how relationships develop allow for a deeper connection to other characters. You not only shape their relationship towards you as the MC, but also to a great extent their relationship towards each other.
You want two friends to find love in each other? That's possible.
The art is simple but it grew on me. Some scenes are better than others and during the three chapters there is huge improvement both in terms of renders and the environmental storytelling.
The story has a lot of potential, especially the dark fantasy aspect of it, and I hope the game doesn't get pulled down by its slice of life and corruption elements too much. Because I believe it can stand on its own and maybe blend these elements together to something we haven't seen a thousand times before. The patreon roadmap is promising.
