Deleted messages without notice

A few of my messages got deleted in the last hours. I don't mind that it happened, I understand it was probably due to some cleaning of "off-topic" messages inside a thread.

However, I'm wondering why there isn't an automated notification given to users whose messages got deleted. I understand the lack of time from the mods to type the reason and whatever, but I don't see any reason not to have an automated notification procedure, unless you don't want users to notice that it happened.

EDIT: Now that I have found the thread, I'd like to mention that at least 2 of the deleted messages were perfectly within the topic of the thread, but I digress.

i think it's one manual checkbox for all mod actions like this, with no default state setting, so you'd have to code it in and also separate it from actions like editing game posts which may not need alerts, and in theory mods may not want it (not giving a reason may lead to waves of appeals asking what's going on).

While I see the potential reason for the deletion of some of my messages, that was not what I asked.

The edit was a tangent, but my main question is in general and not deserving of a ticket.

Before making a potentially useless feature request, I wanted to know more about how this works, which is why I asked the question. I'm very against content moderation that tries to go under the radar (silent content deletion, shadow-banning, etc), so I might make a request unless it doesn't make sense to. To be clear, the mod in question did post a comment in the thread regarding the deletion of messages, but it can still easily go unnoticed unless people come search for it.

8.

3.If you have a problem with a Moderator, contact a Staff Member or open a Support Ticket
4.If you have a problem with a Staff Member, contact F95 and Sam via Support Ticket
5.Do not abuse the Report or Ticket systems

This includes but is not limited to issues arising from messages being deleted from threads, the correct way of handling what happened was to open a ticket and request the information or clarification.

The edit was a tangent, but my main question is in general and not deserving of a ticket.
As staff or mods are the only ones that can give you an official correct answer AND an official correct answer in context with your specific situation a ticket is the right course of action.

The only ones with up to date information about it and about your situation are the staff and mods, you MAY get some guesstimates or some partial information old / new but if you want the answer and your problem solved the ticket system is your answer.

I'm not grumpy, I'm just coded that way.

There is, but sometimes cleaning involve dozens of posts, and some of them will not lead to a notification by lack of time and because they are removed due a side effect; like by example because quoting a now deleted post.

EDIT: Now that I have found the thread, [...]
I don't understand... You know that you had posts deleted despite the absence of notification, but you didn't knew where those posts were?

I see, thanks for the explanation.

For better or worse, I keep more or less track of my message count, so I saw a smaller number than yesterday.

A few of my messages got deleted in the last hours. [without notice]
I think it is fine.
I've also had this happen, but I did not really need an explanation - my messages were inappropriate and deleting them was proper course of action.
Maybe we can even take it as moderators deem us usually-mature-enough to understand on our own, without detailed report.

EDIT: Now that I have found the thread, I'd like to mention that at least 2 of the deleted messages were perfectly within the topic of the thread, but I digress.
Tmu. this always happens when many posts get deleted at once.
From what I've read over the decades it was always a big hassle in each and every forum software to delete many-but-not-all posts. Somewhat odd that it still is in 2024 but I assume that's how it is.

While I agree, my point was that there wasn't even a notification of the removal. I just happened to notice because of my message count.

Back when I was a mod of a forum a decade ago, we were already using ancient and decrepid forum back-ends, I guess not much has changed :LUL:

Either way, I think I got a satisfactory answer, and it seems that making a feature request doesn't make much sense.

making a feature request doesn't make much sense.
one to send a separate replied-to-thread alert (for users watching? anybody with posts and soft-deleted posts in?) when a mod uses [‎staff=warn] would be interesting, but then consider the alert spam if it were to happen in one of the popular threads or for a less important warn box.
