Hey everyone, i am experimenting with DAZ rendering and denoising images. Some renders look great even after denoising (using Denoiser 2.4), others are "plastic/cartooney" especially headshot details. Do you have good practice how to avoid this plastic effect or at least reduce it?

First image is original from DAZ using IRAY, rendered in 4k and scaled down to 1080p in GIMP. The second one is denoised with Denoiser 2.4. day01_009.jpg denoised_day01_009.jpg

The problem is that your image is very noisy to begin with. The denoiser blurs pixels together where it detects noise and that's why it has that blurry look when you have lots of noise.
The answer to your problem is either adding more light to the scene or rendering with more iterations. First one being the more likely.
Also you have very sharp shadows in your image, which looks unnatural and means you are using a small light source, which also tends to create noise. I'd suggest you first use a bigger light source and compare the results first, then try adding more light sources.
